Today was different than I expected.

A week ago I had a Thursday visit with a Kaiser doctor since my doctor was too swamped.  He was very careful and not only dealt with my influenza he also heard me say that I'd been having headaches since I fell at the gym during a session.  He ordered a CT scan for the next day, so in the afternoon I went, found a healthy co pay of two hundred 15 dollars.  Later that day, a week ago on Friday he called to say I needed to go to ER because the CT scan had discovered a brain bleed.  So later that night I went to ER and ended up being admitted to the hospital and after everyone looked over the CT they decided it was nothing, told me to go home and resume my blood thinner which I did this past week but the headaches persisted and while I was recovering from the flu I didn't feel totally right.  They had required a follow up CT scan for this morning, a week later.  So at 8:45 I was at Kaiser for CT scan, a little later I had the scan and the lady was not comfortable with what she say, she say a new bleed in the brain and thought I should cancel my day of 4 appointments and go to ER for followup.  I walked out and started driving but grew more and more apprehensive about turning my back on care so I went back and was greeted with open arms.  Very soon I was in a bed, my appointments cancelled or put off for the day and they started work.  They discovered my INR was 4.4, a very thin blood, in 15 years I had never been more than 3.1 and normally I kept it between 2 and 3 taking blood thinner faithfully every night.  But somehow this week the blood had gotten much thinner, 4.4 and as a result the brain had started to bleed.  So they immediately gave me Vitamin K in two different forms, within an hour they had my blood to a 1.1 level, that is totally normal for a person not taking thinner at all.  Then this afternoon they did another CT scan and there was no change in the bleed, no worse, no better.  The doctors considered that success since it was not worse and after feeding me a great dinner released me to drive home.
Now I'm ready to go to sleep and for the next month I'll have no blood thinner or aspirin, for the first time in years I'll not have thin blood to ward off possible stroke.  But the thinking is, its better to let the blood do its work in healing my brain from bleeds.
I received great care from the local Kaiser ER today, really amazingly good.  I've very thankful that the super thin blood was discovered.  That was a huge risk I did not even know about.
In doing research the medical staff thought it might have happened because the doctor had given me Theraflu and an antibiotic also to help me beat back the flu.  Perhaps the Flu medicine and the antibiotic together could have caused the thin blood, no one really knows why.
Sending love to all, Nikki, Jason and my partner in Singapore Moon all were very supportive today and I felt cared for.
Now I sleep and I'm so glad to be home in my own bed.
Sending love to all,
Tim

P2P weight in tomorrow

Dear Reader, Friend, Family
For the last 6 weeks I've been in a challenge, this time as an alumni of past challenges they gave us a discount so we put up $297 and if we lose 20 pounds in 6 weeks we can either claim the money or roll it over to a new challenge that begins in a week.  As of a few minutes ago I had 1/2 pound to go to be down 20 pounds and tomorrow morning I'll drive to Concord to a huge hotel where hundreds of people will gather to weigh in and either win or lose.  I've done 2 challenges before and have always won by a pound or two, this morning I'm already preparing for the tomorrow weigh in.  I'm sipping a tea called Smooth Move and believe me it works, just helps the body to clean out a bit, I'll also take an Epsom salt bath tonight and then snuggle under blankets hoping to sweat.  Once again doing the challenge has helped get my life on track.  Over a year ago when I finished the second challenge I was down to 173 and felt good, unfortunately I did not have a good plan for the next step and starting eating too much and over the year I've regained enough weight that put me almost back to where I started.  The diabetes was out of control and I felt old and slow.
Now the new challenge has reconnected me to old friends who also work out, Nikki has been an incredible help, she is also taking this challenge and has already weighed in early with a loss of 21.6 pounds.
So I planned today to be in the office working so I can be near the friendly bathroom.  I'll drink my 1/2 gallon of water by noon and then drink nothing more, eat nothing more and think small.
My work has slowed down a lot, there are fewer orders out there these days, hope spring brings a resurgence of work and orders.
Keanna is driving now which is a little difficult to adjust to, having someone that old.  She has turned out to be a very fast cross country runner winning important races in both northern Cal and southern Cal, its possible she could get a scholarship for college, its also important that her grades are well above 4.0.
Well its time for me to start writing up a report for a property I inspected yesterday in Vacaville.  As I started to leave town afterwards my devices told me I80 was closed going west, my normal freeway home so instead I came home cross country out Fry Road and down 113 to 12 through Rio Vista, across the Antioch Bridge and then to Brentwood to pick up Keanna after running practice.  She was cold from waiting and hungry, a quick stop at El Camino, a local mexican place took care of that.
My work is almost always interesting, often very stressful due to increasing government rules and client demands, do more work, pay less money.  Yet I'm thankful for work and for my life.
My friend Moon lives with her daughter Crystal in Singapore for now.  Crystal has just finished her year of being Miss Singapore and the two of them along with Gucci, the little dog manage to get along in a tiny little apartment where 6 people share 1 bathroom, things are very expensive there.  Our plan is for her return once she has done the things she always intended to do for her aging parents and helping Crystal get started in life.  We talk and text dozens of times a day and look forward.
Its time to work and I thank you all for your support, your prayers and a history of being there when our family needed help.
Love to all

Incredible week! Home safe

Dear Family and Friends,
I flew to Houston, took Lyft to Moon's place and the work began.  Our goal was to rent a trailer, load all of her things into it and bring them to my place while she packed up to return to Singapore to be with her family, set up an apartment for Crystal and help with her father's care in the hospital.
So once I arrived we began work, on Tuesday I rented a trailer from U-haul, amazingly we were blessed with very low fee to come west, if I would return the trailer to Concord the total fee would be $153, that is plus insurance and dolly to move boxes.
Moon lived on the third floor in a two bedroom place, very nice with lakes, ducks, private streets and 500 units. On Tuesday afternoon I started moving boxes down the three sets of stairs and to the trailer, we unhooked the trailer as she has to help her friend on Wednesday morning, when she came back I could not lift the trailer to rehook it back so I moved all the boxes I already had in the trailer more to the back to take weight off, then I was able to just barely make the connection and we never took it off again.
Moon did an excellent job of packing, she had already packed about 25 or more boxes and we shipped them out early in January, they will arrive by ship at the end of February.  She has lived there about 5 years and has collected many things, Crystal, her 21 year old daughter calls her place the museum and there was ring of truth to that.
I say many beautiful things as we packed and I carried the loads down, first I did two boxes but soon I was doing 4 and 5, going down was easy but very noisy as we crashed from step to step, concrete steps and finally through a security gate and then to the Tahoe or trailer to store.  We worked almost around the clock sleeping very little, she had created a nice place in the guest room on an air bed and it was so comfortable, had my own bathroom.  On Wednesday she drove to the animal hospital for the last check up for Gucci, the little doggie that was making the trip to Singapore.  That one cost about $400 and all was in order.  Then on Thursday we drove to Austin with the trailer behind to the USDA to get our final goverment stamps for Singapore.  We arrived about 11 and found parking to be impossible, then just as in so many other times God opened a two place parking with two parking meters, into the bank I went, got quarters, fed the meters and into the USDA.  Super nice people and Moon had all the documents in order including the last two that were on her phone, she emailed them to the guy and he printed them out, 20 minutes later and $121 and we were done,  that process started the first of August since 4 months have to pass after the rabies shots are given by a Federal accredited vet.  Finally we were getting it done.  Then back to Houston to complete packing and moving out of a very full apartment.  Sometimes our tempers flared but at 2 am Sat. am we walked out and drove to Austin Airport.  Moon had not slept at all so went to sleep instantly once I started driving, it was a terrible night, pouring rain, heavy fog, visibility was limited.  We arrived at the airport very concered about how we would get her 11 pieces of luggage, the dog, the carry on to the check in.  A great porter was waiting and soon all the items were lines up in from to the ticket counter and an hour later she went through security and at 7:30 her text came, we are taking off.  She flew to SF where she spent the entire day waiting for a 10:30 flight that night direct and non stop to Singapore.  I've not spoken to her since.  Crystal texts me and I've learned they arrived fine but Moon is quite ill, she goes to see Gucci who is in quarantine for 10 days and Crystal is busy with her duties from being Miss Singapore.
I left Austin at 7:30 and arrived home at 12:45 Sunday night, God blessed with just enough gas money, car only got 13 or 14 due to the very loaded trailer.  I slept in the car under a huge blanket she provided for me in New Mexico.  Not a trip I'd like to take again for a very long time, ran out of gas once and the police came with a 5 gallon can, ate very little but listened to a great book that lasted almost all the way across.  Coming up out of LA the trailer began to screech, one of the wheels was running hot, what to do, pray and keep going, gradually after getting off the mountain it cooled down and made it home.  Most of the way I paid between $2.11 and $2.33 until I got to the Golden State, then it was over $3.00.  Not fun.
I now have all the things in the garage, the trailer is returned to concord and I inspected properties today.  I am so grateful to a loving God who has helped us many times when we faced serious challenges, some of you have helped or this could not have happened.
Because her last court appearance went so well and her record is clear, when she is ready to come back for a life and our marriage, about two years she thinks, all she has to do is apply.  I look forward to that day when my special lady can come home.
Love to all,

Tim

Friday Night by the Fire

Dear Friends and Family,
So thankful to be feeling better finally, have had a rough couple weeks with two runs of antibiotics, finally coughing less, sleeping without fever and shivers, able to keep on working and so grateful to a loving God
In spite of its being the holiday season I've been blessed with orders, I treasure every one of them.  Susan came this week and wrote appraisals all day, was very ill the next door, perhaps she caught my cough, probably, she helped so much only to get so sick.
My furnace has not worked this fall, I've done what I knew to fix it without success, tomorrow a man is coming by, hes from Tracy, to just take a look while he is out here working on someone else's heater.
I'm working on doing a refi, first one in about 13 years but its been a very difficult process.  At this point I'm not sure yet if it will happen.  I need the cash to do two things, my cars are getting old and have lots of miles, I'm planning to purchase Moon's Tahoe, has low miles and has excellent care as we are flying her home to Singapore come January 25.  I need the refi to close for cash for her car and cash for the IRS, I was out of work for three months in 2016 when the heart value was installed and I owe a lot of money.  I'm praying morning and night about the refi, already many very helpful things have happened.  Tom and John came for a whole day and fixed a really bad place on my house with dry rot, they did a great job, Ray, next door angel has helped days on the deck and steps, I've painted where I could reach over the entire home.
Moon is busy packing boxes, some to ship to Singapore for her mom and Crystal and others that I'll bring home when she flies out of Texas and I drive her car back here with a trailer behind.  We talk many times a day and we face everything together, she is an incredible person with a love for family that is just amazing.  Crystal who won the Miss Singapore pageant is now preparing to fly to Egypt for the Miss World pageant but will have to fly there alone, not a great place to be alone.  So we pray that God will guide and protect her.
When I wake in the morning I first turn on a heater that George and Yvonne gave us years ago.  That heats my bedroom and the area where I shower as it is often 59 degrees.  What a life saver, this is one of those heaters that glow orange, a radiant kind of heat.  I remember when George brought it to us so long ago when Nan was still very much alive.  With the heater out this season that heater has been such a huge blessing.  During the time when my fever was so high I kept the heater on all night to hold away the chill.
Can you imagine how amazed I was this morning to get an email from someone in nearby Brentwood who wanted to rent the motorhome today!  I had three appointments which I could not change but they decided to wait till I got home and they rented it and are on their way to San Diego now using the coastal route.  I'm so thankful for the income, it let me get some gift certificates at Safeway for Christmas.
Sending my love and gratitude for your friendship and your prayers.  Dolly has been an incredible prayer warrior for me while I was ill, so thankful for that amazing woman.

enjoy Christmas, easy on the eggnog!

With joy

Challenges

Good Morning family and friends,
Sunday morning, just had a nice email from Barbara Lammerding, what a true friend she has been. I'm grateful for so many blessings that God has given over the years. 36 years with Nan, every year a huge blessing, a super family with Nikki and Steve and the girls working hard, doing the right things and still finding life a struggle,  Keanna running a 3 mile yesterday in Hayward hoping to help her school Liberty High to place 3rd so they could go state championships but they did not quite make it, still competing and doing very well, then lunch with her and just appreciating the miracle of life, the joys of family.  Kallie meanwhile was competing in a Cheer contest where her group from Brentwood placed 5th.  She is doing so well in school and in preparing a Christmas list, wow!
Then there is Jason and Jo with Timothy and Mia, working long hours, Jason commuting sometimes up to 4 hours a day to get his job done, they have Julie visiting, Jo's mom who took some time from work and is here visiting.  Jo teaching and suddenly having a week off, enjoying having more room in the home they live in in Fremont.  Great kids and enjoying a new French Bull dog who is still learning how to be a good doggie but adding so much joy to the home.

I'm facing huge challenges right now, a tax bill that hit yesterday from IRS, an attempt to refi my place, to get it cleaned up and fixed up enough to pass the appraisal for FHA, me under the deck last night trying to shore up some weak spots, so sore this morning that getting up was a challenge.

My precious Moon, my friend in Houston who will be returning to Singapore in January, trying to help her get ready to return.  She meanwhile helping her daughter Crystal who has already won Miss Singapore and is now competing in Miss World, Moon spends hours every day on the phone advising, listening, teaching Crystal how to handle each day as she competes with the world now.  She is finding that some of the girls who look so lovely in the photos can be very mean and threatening.  So I wish Moon and Crystal the best and give what support I can.

I ask for your prayers that God will guide me, help me, help with my work and give me peace.  Every day I want to be a better more caring person, to do good in my work and to do my part of God's family.

Sending love to all

Long time no write

Dear Friends and Family,
Sunday morning, have walked 3 miles, now working on appraisals and doing laundry, fortunately can do both with few steps in between.
I wanted to share a photo of Crystal, Moon's daughter.  She just won Miss Singapore and is enjoying the challenge of representing her country, visiting children, doing TV performances and keeping very busy.  She is a talented young woman and her mom and her spend hours every day planning every detail of her costumes, her make up, what words to speak when in other countries, how to be the princess she now is.  I'm so proud of Moon for her total commitment to her family and to Crystal her precious daughter..
I have been busy lately dealing with the challenges of both cars failing in the same weekend and the costs to make them run again, wow!  Work has continued to come in for which I am very thankful and so far my health is pretty good.  I did not keep the weight off that I lost in the program so find myself once again trying to get a handle of eating too much and the wrong things.
Yesterday Kallie and I were heading to church when she realized she had not dressed for church so we ended up here at the house.  We built the first fire of the season as it was chilly and looked over possible Christmas gifts, she has quite a list!  We had lunch at Red Robin and discovered they have changed the vegeburger they serve, I looked at it and thought it was meat, they assured me it was not meat.  I don't like change but I had it on my plate so ventured into eating it.  It is excellent and I was relieved.
On Friday Moon drove over a hour to reach the Houston Pet Hospital where doctors are accredited to perform tests on Gucci that are required before she can fly home to Singapore.  We don't get results for 6 weeks and the visit was $332.  When we get the results then we can apply for a dog license for Singapore and make better plans for Moon and her to fly home sometime in January.  But Gucci is worth it, a very precious little part of our family.
Well I suppose its time to return to work now, I go see a little condo in Antioch at 4 today and write up reports for properties I have seen this week.  Keanna was in a running meet yesterday in Hayward and placed 38 out of over 200 runners.  Turns out she is really fast and loves running.  When she and Nikki recently went to New York and Washington DC she ran often, in Central Park and on the Mall in Washington DC, pretty exciting stuff.
Sending love to all, love those people God has surrounded you with with your best.!

Love Tim

Update

Dear Family and Friends,
Its been awhile with a lot of things happening, very thankful for a Loving Protecting Father in Heaven.
My special friend lives in Houston and is OK, shook, frightened but doing all the right things too. At the moment she is worshiping in her church that managed to stay dry.  She can drive to some nearby locations and avoid streets that remain covered with water.  As the hurricane struck we decided that she would purchase as many meals as she could from a local Asian restaurant.  So she had food enough to last until Wednesday.  She lived by her TV watching the news accounts of waters flooding areas that were near to her.  Freeways filled with water and she was able to purchase gas ahead of time.  Rain blew into the roof and leaked through her ceiling, that caused her a lot of worry but her water and power remained on for the entire time.  On Wednesday she was able to find a Walmart that was open and stocked up, ATMs had stopped working, banks were closed and she constantly worried that more water would be released and flood her out.  It did not reach her but was not far away.  She did the right things, went to her bank when it opened and wrapped her legal papers in plastic as the bank said the vault was not waterproof.  She and Gucci rode out the days of raining and finally she sent me a photo of sun peeking in her window, her storage place also stayed dry, that is where she has many boxes that are set for shipment to Singapore.
We are very thankful for her safety but so sad for so many people in Texas who did not have a good outcome.
Dana has stayed in touch, she is Nan's sister and lives in Houston.  They stayed dry, kept their power and are fine.
I'm working hard and can finally relax a bit with Moon being safe and calm.
Sending love to all,

tim
