Wow, its over

Dear Family and Friends,
Finally we are home, its been a very long day.

Last evening I went to bed expecting to wake around 5:15 but instead I woke at 1:30 totally wired and awake.  Finally after tossing and turning I just got up and came down, picked up a report and began to write.  By 3:30 I had it nearly completed needing only info from the local MLS board that was of course off line for updating during the wee hours of the night.

I woke at 8 this morning, came down, finished the report, had breakfast and then hit the road with side kick Marilyn.  We went to a very nice custom home in Antioch which took a very long time to measure, seems I was so sleepy I could hardly stand up and thinking became a chore.

Then it was to a decent place in the hills above Pittsburg and again I was so sleepy I could hardly function.  Feeling low blood sugar setting in we went to burger king and had a vegeburger.  With lots of nice coke in my body for awhile I was awake but before reaching Dublin I was so sleepy that I was borderline dangerous.  I woke briefly to conduct the appraisal of a very well maintained home.  Then it was time to head to Port Richmond for a driveby.  Would you believe the little cottage sat overlooking the entire bay, three bridges were visible from their back deck but finding the comps was another story.  In this area the streets are poorly maintained, narrow and dangerous.  Eventually we located all the properties we needed to photograph.  We stopped at Mels Diner on the way home for dinner and arrived home about 9:15.

When I opened the emails I discovered a very nice note from Dolly.  She and her husband are moving to Napa soon, it will be so wonderful to have them nearby.  She is a dear friend and has a direct connection to our heavenly Father.

Good night to you all, tomorrow morning we rise early and drive to see Timothy, Mia, Jo and Jason.  I'm anxious to see them all and we will be witnessing Timothy being inducted into a special childrens club that Jo has created.

Back

I'm not sure just how I did it but for two days I posted on an old blog site, so sorry about the confusion.

Another long one today, while I'm thrilled to have work at this level I've got to find help with the writing end of it.  The reports we write now take much longer, perhaps double what they did 5 years ago.  Are they better?  In some ways and in others they are just more steps to reach the same conclusions.  It irks me that Fannie and Freddie are dictating these changes when they are the jerks that caused much of the present disaster in the country.  Yet if one wants to work right now, he write the reports the way they want them or they are rejected.

I woke this morning to pages of conditions for two reports that had just been completed.  So far I've dealt with one and resubmitted it, the other will come in the morning.  Mind you these are not suggestions they are making, they are demands yet these people making the noise are not the lender, they are failed appraiser who now work for the management companies, they run the report through their computer and it spits out the wayit should be, no allowance for the fact that the house is 111 years old and there are almost no comps, they just demand more comps like we could create them.

Today Marilyn was kind to drive over and take the kiddos to school so Steve could leave for an early appointment in San Ramon.  Then when she returned I asked her if she would like to got to Morgan Hill.  We spend a lot of time driving, locating and inspecting the house, nice little place on an acre tucked in the mountains west of Morgan Hill.  Then we drove the comps which were spread over a 5 mile radius. Then we found a Safeway that had diesel for $396 a gallon so I pounced on that.  Then we went to the deli for some very good sandwiches.

This was a warm day but the little beetle drives so nicely and stays very cool inside.  I'm blessed with that car, now at 252,000 miles and still going.

So now its bed time, its been a warm day but tonight its cool outside.

Please pray for individuals who are facing extra hard times right now.  God knows and cares.

Love to all

Well not sure how that happened.

I just wrote an entire posting on the old blog site.  Unfortunately I don't have time to rewrite it here.

Hope your day went well.  Mine is busy to the max.

A great day

Dear Family and Friends,

Its 9:25 and I'm writing a short message.  This morning started at 5:15 when I rolled out, showered in the dark and came down to write a full report.  Then I did research for the day and wrote another report half way.  Finally it was time to leave for Livermore.  I found a 111 year old home with a nerd owner.  It was great, then it was Berkeley and I enjoyed seeing a house with very funny owners.  It was a lovely home.

After that I drove to Martinez and found a little house built on the side hill.  It was rough but had lots of promise, $450,000 worth I guess.

Then it was to Richmond to see a perfect little home and a very nice lady.  After that I headed home and caught the Applebees in Pinole.  Great food and the traffic had cleared by the time I left.

Now home, ready for bed.  Good news is that some money came in the mail today.  So tomorrow I start the process of the Kaiser insurance.

This evening my heart is heavy with a couple people that are hurting.  Please pray that God will be the great helper to these precious people.

Love to all,

Tim

Long day

Dear Ones,

This will be brief.  I've been writing on a million dollar property in Blackhawk.  Not all that impressive for that much money but nice and backs to the golf course.  The whole house had hardwood floors in great condition.  These bigger value ones take longer to write.  There is more to say and prove when the dollars creep up.

Earlier today I saw a little place in a subdivision that I've never worked in before even though it is near.  Its near Bethel Island and has a little lake of its own, a play area, a swim club all for $70 a month.  Comps are almost impossible to find though since its so new that only a few places have even had foreclosures.

This morning Ken and I walked and it was tough at first.  My lungs just did not want to work and the coughing was pretty awful, got better as we walked and talked.

Had one of those wonderful shakes with the powder that Dolly provided me, tastes so good.  Well now its time to sleep.  Rolled out at 5:30 this morning and its 10:57 now and I've not taken a break all day, one of these days I hope this all starts paying off.

Sending love to all and special thoughts to Ann, Jan and Rusty as they prepare to say a final goodbye to Uncle Jim.

Love to all

Keanna goes for the goal

Good evening

There she was, running her heart out, kicking the ball ahead of her with her eye on the goal and suddenly she was down hard, her whole body slammed into the ground.  She slowly got up, shook it off and walked to the sidelines where the coach put his arms around her.  We thought maybe that was it for the day but soon she was back out on the field, pigtail flying as she raced after the ball, kicking it down the field or once working it all the way down the field.  Today her team scored a goal and they went on to defend and win the game.  They were very excited.

After the game Keanna came with us, Marilyn, Steve and me to Nations for breakfast.  They we each went our own way.  While we were waiting for breakfast Sharon called to pass along the sad news that Uncle Jim had died in his sleep.  He was very old and his health had failed to the point where he hardly knew anyone, still to think of him gone is hard to imagine.  Aunt Ann has been an amazing caregiver to Jim and will have to rearrange her life now that Jim has fallen asleep in Jesus.  Its hard when you've been a caregiver to suddenly lose your purpose for living.

Sharon and Sunny made a safe trip on Friday from my house to Lancaster.  When they arrived at their friends home they found that they had full hookups for a motorhome too, lucky break.  Today they were in Loma Linda to visit family and then they will move on down the line.

So now its bedtime, Ken says we walk at 8 in the morning, sounds good to me.

Love to all,

Tim

Safely through another week.....

Good evening

I am very grateful for the events of this week, highpoints certainly are Jason's birthday, Sharon and Sunny coming to visit and the great times we had sharing memories of Nan, a few tears and renewing an eternal friendship.  These are quality people and I'm inspired by the fact that after years alone they found each other and are building a wonderful life together.

My week has included seeing dozens of properties, writing reports until my eyes nearly glaze over, working very long hours and enjoying safe trips to may locations.  I've learned new things this week, done a balancing act with the appraisal orders trying to get them seen, written and back to lenders who are anxious to do deals.  During the week some checks have come in and of course there are lots more checks that need to come in.

Life has much different than I expected it to be at 63 years old.  I had no idea I would be this busy with work, this overweight, coping with diabetes, high blood pressure etc.  Yet I'm very thankful for the ability to move about freely, to work long hours and days.  I'm grateful to still be lin my home and today the Honda's last payment was made.  Its fully paid for now.

I'm working on a two year plan, gradually gaining ground, getting things paid off, discovering ways to live for less.

So on this Friday evening I'm at peace.

Now lets talk about you, how are things in your life?  Are you getting to spend quality time with those you care about?  Do you have projects that bring satisfaction to you?  Are you learning new things?

I'm sending you my very best hopes and thoughts tonight.  May your life be rich, take care of loving the one you are with.  Soon my search for someone will start with more focus and energy.  I'm ready to move forward, I happen to think God will guide.

Good night one and all,

love

The girls meet Sharon and Sunny

Dear Family and Friends,
This has been a very special day, for the first and most important thing, this is Jason's birthday, a day that saw him putting in long hours, he sounded pretty tired when we spoke.  My little guy is grown up and doing well!  So proud.  Happy Birthday Jason and thanks Jo for doing so many nice things for him today.

Sharon and Sunny arrived in their Trek motorhome mid day, we went to the RV store in town for an electrical hookup he needed and then had a quick lunch at Burger King.  We picked up the girls at their schools and they got to meet and greet their aunt Sharon and Uncle Sunny.  What a happy time.  This evening we loaded up the van with all of us and Nikki drove us to Stockton where we feasted at Old Spaghetti Factory.  I've included a couple photos that sort of capture the fun.

It is wonderful to see Sharon who is a very special lady on lots of counts, she has a heart for people and for the Lord, she loves family, works hard and defies aging, must be that great humid Texas air.

The motorhome is a wonder.  Instead of having a bedroom the bed is power driven up to the ceiling during the day and comes down at night.  The coach has a huge bathroom, large frig and is in beautiful condition.  This is a really nicely constructed coach with hardwood everywhere, Corian counters and excellent features.

They will continue on their way in the morning heading south from here.  What a great opportunity to get to see them and be reminded of how precious family is.

Well for now I'm heading to bed and getting some rest.

Martinez, Novato, Santa Rosa, Napa

You name it, I've been there or so it seems lately.  What an exciting time, can we spell excitement this way, STRESS!

This morning I rolled out at 5:30, then came directly down to begin writing.  I wrote two reports from start to finish, emailed them out and then at 11:30 showered and left for the Board of Realtors to pay my $108 and become an affiliate member so Kaiser will like me, then I drove to Martinez to shoot comps that were much more like the subject property than the ones I had the first time around, then I drove to Novato and arrived 3 minutes early.

I found a ranchette with beautiful chickens, a barn, excellent landscaping, mature trees and a very nice home.  She fed me watermelon and we chatted about the house.  When they bought it the ground was bare, they have done all the landscaping and now its lush with Koi ponds, waterfalls, patios area, a huge weeping willow tree.  Here I was in the middle of Novato and it was farm country.  My comp shooting involved driving all over a little mountain I did not even know existed and finally after shooting 8 comps I was ready for the next destination.

As I entered Highway 101 I found stop and go, mostly stop traffic for the first 10 miles as I headed north for Santa Rosa.  Finally I arrived at the location, shot my photos and then started to find the comps. They too were all over and it took a while to find them.

Once I was through I set the GPS for the address in Napa that needed new front and rear photos shot.  The GPS headed me to Calestoga, Saint Helena and finally as darkness fell Napa.  I did find the slowest drivers on the road in front of me and my patience was wearing very thin.

Once I pulled up at the house it was nearly dark.  I shot some photos but who knows if they will be good or not, it was the best I could do.
I arrived home about 9:11 and have been on the computer since then printing out orders and catching up a bit.

Tomorrow I hope to see Sharon and Sunny.  I've heard nothing so far since they arrived so I hope all is well.

Sending love to all, so tired I'll fall asleep on the stairs!

Tired but happy eyes

Good evening family and friends,

First off I have to share some pretty good news that took place today.  While reading an appraisal magazine I came across some verbage indicating that OREP, this specific appraisal group could offer group medical insurance plans.  As I read the details I discovered that they offered Kaiser plans which you did not have to qualify for, if you were part of the group you were accepted.  So I sent an email and the agent called back with great news.  The new plan I will have is about $500 less per month than what I pay Blue Cross right now and I get the benefits of being able to avail myself with all the different things Kaiser offers, a little life insurance plan, dental is included at no extra cost.  So I'm taking the steps I need to so I can get signed up by Oct. 1.  It is a wonderful solution to the huge premium I have to pay every month.  My in is with the local real estate board which I've been paying into for years.

Otherwise this has been a day of cranking out, fixing and working the phones.  Marilyn has been busy making dinner tonight and then putting about 8 new orders in and setting up the files.  Wow when it rains, it pours.  Tomorrow I'll be in Santa Rosa and Novato, Napa and probably some more places. Then on Thursday I'm hoping to see Sharon and Sonny and their new motorhome.

Steve came with Kallie this afternoon, his dogs love to swim, chase ducks and enjoy the water.  kallie is just so precious, what a great little girl.  Lots of fun.

Well I'm tired, 5:30 comes early in the morning and this morning I jumped up and rode the tred mill for 30 minutes just to get a good start.  It worked!

Love life,

love to all of you

Bone tired....

This will be short.

Today I visited lovely Berkeley, saw the most incredibly cute home, then moved on to Livermore where I met a very old realtor, sweet as can be, enjoyed seeing the home, then on to a very nice home with a single lady occupant, really enjoyed that visit and home, extra nice!, the on to the last house and arrived an hour early.  It was hot, sweaty work and this evening I'm glad its done.

A couple days off might be nice one of these days!  But not for a while.

When its hot in the middle of September one knows that it can't last so here comes fall and cooler weather, shorter days.

Will talk more later when I'm not to totally worn out.  Heading to bed now. Thanks for reading, one of these days I'll have something to say again.

Stunning day

What a day to enjoy, of course I'm stuck to this chair writing reports so the day's enjoyment was tempered a bit.

I slept really poorly last night, perhaps it was that can of soda way to late in the evening along with the griller I did on the BBQ.

This morning Starr and I came down early and with a much cleaner deck and table outside I took the laptop out there and in the cool morning air sipped the mocha and checked out emails.  Eventually I came in to work and after steel cut oats I really started working.  The first report seemed to take a long time but this was a day for contrasts.  It had a value of less than $200,000 and located in Richmond. The next one is located in Palo Alto a few blocks from Stanford University and had a value well over a million dollars.  While writing that appraisal I plugged in the scandisk with the photos, shortly thereafter my computer screen turned solid blue and for the next two hours it would not reboot.  I even had Jim coming tomorrow to see if he could get a little bit more life from it and then I turned to find it laboring to start up again and its been up and working since.  The scandisk which came from CostCo will not read in the card reader, I can only get the photos out by plugging a cable directly into the camera and pulling them out that way.  Nikki says she too has had a bad experience with a scan disk from CostCo.  This is not good, in busy times like this I'd not like to have to back and retrace my steps for a whole day retaking photos!

Now its bedtime and in all its been a good day.  I have almost everything scheduled for the upcoming week, with loads of work Steve and I are both slammed.  Its a blessing but still very stressful.

So here's to a good week, love to all,

Tim

Here comes the fall season.......

What a great day this has been weather wise.  We started off this morning at Freedom High School field where Keanna played her heart out.  Two times she drove the ball toward the goal and almost made the goal.  She was so happy with her performance and of course it was heart stopping for us as we watched and enjoyed.

After Soccer we went to Nation's for breakfast and had some great food.  We've spent the day chasing cob webs, leaves, branches and even checked out the spa, it has sat for 2 years collecting dust and it is disgusting to say the least.  Really awful.  But I'm determined to get it going again.  I enjoy sitting in the spa in the evening watching the planes fly over, with torches lit and the lake glimmering in the background.  But its been a long time since I've been in the spa, perhaps long enough.

This afternoon I had a conversation with Sharon and confirmed that they are coming to visit, probably next Thursday in their new (used) Trek motorhome.  It will be great to see Sharon and to meet Sonny her new husband.

As I look at the stack of orders this evening I don't know how I can get to all of them on time, how I need a writer to help.  I hope it can work out somehow.

This afternoon under the direction of Marilyn the traffic cop I put away the motorhome beside the house.  One needs a second set of eyes to make sure not to hit the fence and to get it just right beside the house.  Now its tucked away safely until the next time we get it out to get it repaired or to travel somewhere fun.

Tomorrow is an incredibly important day to get the three reports completed that I've seen.

So saying good night to all,  got to report how fun it was to see the kiddos this morning, Kallie was sleepy but so charming as she sat in her little chair and watched her sissy on the field and Keanna was amazing, she can run so fast and kick so hard.    Wow

Friday night at last.

Dear Family and Friends,
So here I am sitting in the old recliner, watching a Loma Linda preacher coming through the dish, sipping a mocha and in the distance I hear the woeful sounds of the train rushing by across the delta, its horn blowing.

This has been some week, we pushed out all the reports we could, used our time as well as I could, traveled hundreds of miles, met wonderful people, saw beautiful properties, some almost like heaven.  Its been some week.

This afternoon the orders started to come in again, piles of them.  Blessings every one.  Marilyn is busy putting files together and our numbers are incrediblel and yes one of these days the money will start flowing in.

I don't think I can possibly explain how multi task the job I have is, from pleas from homeowners for comps, from numerous management companies all trying to figure out what they want, how little they can pay and how long they can wait before they pay.  many of the people who call from these companies have become my friends and I have the feeling that I am trusted by many to do honest and straight forward reports.  Not that everything goes well, right now I can submit a report is several different manners, pdf, mismo, xml, AI so the learning curve is always there.

This afternoon someone called who had 10 reports to send if we could take them, that is music to the ears.

So now its Sabbath and a calm comes into ones soul.  How ready I am for some rest and reflection.

So I send my love and appreciation  to all, family and friends alike.  Life is not perfect but it is a real trip to experience, every day has the cool mornings, like it was at 5 when I started this morning.  This morning as I stepped out the front door to look around there were the stars, the beautiful sky.  No matter what life is precious to have.

And they just keep coming

Dear Family and Friends,

Remember how I used to be grateful for 5 orders in a week, try 6 today a lone.  They came by fax, email, phone call, carrier pidgeon (well not by the latter).  Once I got up this morning and came down its been non stop all day.

For breakfast I had some Cherrios and toast, peaches and hot drink.  Steve and I inspected a home locally which was located by the water and then he went his busy way and I went mine.  Marilyn joined me for a trip to Palo Alto.  Upon arrival we found the home prices to be pretty amazing.  We saw a home which was less than 2,000 sf and it will be over 1.5 million, then we went to a newly constructed stunningly beautiful home which will probably be at least 2.7 million.

We found a nice Olive Garden in Palo Alto, ate a quick bite and then made our way back home using 84 through Fremont.  We arrived a few minutes ago and when I sat down at the computer I started printing out orders.  Amazing and they are coming from a host of clients, a very good thing, now lets hope they all remember to write checks.  I've become a bit more bold about asking for additional fees and for the most part I've been getting higher fees in return.  Of course they really count when we see the checks, which is not yet.

I'm tired but very thankful for work, for good health, for decent food to eat, for the cool breezes of the morning and evening times, for a good Sleep by Number bed and for the Lords embracing loving arms.

Love to all,

Tim

Long days and short nights

Dear Family and Friends,

This day started early when the light was dim outside. Starr and I stumbled downstairs in time for the daybreak.  Starr went to her place on the back porch where she grumbles but gets fresh air, I went for my mocha and settled in to work the computer.

Steve drove to Oakland where we inspected a very nice older home.  The grandmother who showed us through had just arrived from england for a few days and was a real delightful person.  It was not easy to measure at all but Steve stayed with it until he got it down.  We shot comps and then headed back to pick up Ms Keanna.  I only had her a few minutes, finished up a report, helped her with homework and then I took her to Brentwood for a birthday party.  Then back to work until spin class.  After weeks of missing Kim and her crushing exercise 45 minutes I made it back today.  Loved it and felt great after it was over.

Then it was time to shoot comps, get yelled at by a homeowner for taking pictures and drive home.  Since arriving I've been writing and another report is safely on its way as well as one Steve generated.  More orders came in today and Marilyn has them logged in, set up and on the board.  This is a rather exciting time.

Take care my friends and family,

Sending love to all,

Tim
ps tomorrow I have the privilege or challenge of seeing a 2.4 million dollar place in palo alto, you know one where they bought the little old house, tore it down and built a wonderful new three story home on the site.  Talk about challenges.  The managment company wanted me to do this one for $375 but I just ask for $500.  Thats a lot of risk and work to do right, we will see how they respond.

Orders continue to flow in...

Beware reading those books by Joel or Joyce!!

You know the books that try to get one to think positive about the future, about shucking off self fears and step forward, imagine that you are a success.

Well for several weeks now the orders have come in and while I'm not always able to get them back on time for the most part with Steve's help we are doing pretty well.  Marilyn has learned how to input orders and set up files, she also keeps the board up to date that monitors the progress with the dozens of files we have in play.

This morning Steve and I inspected two properties here in Discovery Bay, the first was a three story home with a pebbletec pool and spa, beautiful in every way, the second was less perfect but still a real buy for less than $200,000.  I enjoy working with Steve and afterwards we went to the Byron Inn for a late breakfast.  The food was great as always.

The rest of the day I've spent in this chair, spend some time paying bills, the rest on working up orders.  This afternoon STeve came with the dogs and that was a nice break.  Kallie picked the tomatos and did a great job, the dogs swam, chased ducks and loved the lake.

Marilyn made dinner tonight, very yummy, baked potatoes, then a mixture of textured vege meat, corn and potato soup to smother the potatoes.  Tasted great.

Well its bed time and rest is vital with this much stress and strain going on.  Got word today that Sharon and Sunny are coming out from Texas for a brief trip and we just might get to see them next Wednesday or Thursday in their new motorhome!  That will be fun.  Now its time to clean up this place, royalty is coming!

Good night,

love to all

Tim

Back to the Grind

Dear Family and Friends,

Today it was back to the same old routine, up, shower, talk to Starr about the day, come down, try to cram some work in, quick breakfast, on the road to Piedmont.

Lovely old historical home, nice inside, worth over a million!  Then it was time to locate a bathroom, not always so easy to do when in downtown Oakland!

Then it was on the road to Clayton, lovely people, perfect property, time to chat, make friends, then on to Brentwood to see a strange little house, the occupant was watching a 9/11 conspiracy movie, how someone planted bombs in the towers to make them come down, sure!

Then to Tracy to deal with conditions, many of them on a ranch property, then to Olive Garden for some good salad and a bowl of pasta.

I ran all day, coughed until my gut hurts but also feel satisfaction in what I've been able to get done today. In the morning I try to lay it out and let the Lord take control, yes I know I take back control many times during the day, to yell at the slow driver in front of me, to stress out over finding one more comparable, to munching the wrong things while I'm out.

Today was payday, several thousand dollars finally arrived, promised 13 days ago and finally in my box.  Now I can honor some commitments made, pay the utilities, renew business relationships that cost hundreds each year to send me work, pay for the break job, pay pay pay yet I'm so thankful to have the funds and the work.

Sending love to all,

Tim

So Blessed

Dear Family and Friends,
As I write this evening I am reminded of just how blessed my life is, yes there are constant challenges, yes I'm playing catch up from an intense time of travel, medical issues and emotional trauma, yes my life today is vastly different than it used to be. All of that is true but there is another side.

I'm in a much stronger position today than I was a few years ago, gradually month by month I'm reducing the overall debt I face and right now with this recent influx of new work, with Steve's help, with the UAD learned and working in appraisal writing I'm encouraged.  I've learned more new things in the past week than I've had to learn in years and it was fun, invigorating, exciting and has given me a sense of accomplishment.

I'll tell you this, what we write now and how we do it is much stronger than it used to be.  The day of pushing a value or tweaking the numbers is over.  All of this new training and demands from the industry has caused us to step up and either quit or do a better job.  The reports we write now are stronger, more reality based than ever before.  While its true we make much less per report than in the past I've noticed that recently the fees offers are creeping upward.  I just finished one now that came in Friday, that I inspected this morning, wrote this evening and it pays $470.  Not only that it is from a company called 360 Mortgage. They order their own, they don't use the management companies at all and they will have the money in my bank account through paypal in about 3 days.  I call that progress.

So many times in life we tend to look back at the "good old days" and think that perhaps if we could recreate them we might find our best happiness.  I think that is wrong.  The good old days were wonderful at the time and they create great memories as well but we live now, what is to come next?  Could it be even better days than I 've known before, is that sacrilege to say or is time to get off the dime and move on?

I just want to say a word here.  And I can say it because this is my blog.  I think I have the most interesting group of children and little kiddos anywhere.  How I love to see little Mia smile, climb, crawl, yawn, eat and interact with everyone around, how fun to rough house with Timothy and see his eyes open wide when I pull up in the motorhome, to hear his ideas, to watch him play, to see him fall asleep.

Its true I spend much more time with Keanna and Kallie because we live so near to each other and there is nothing quite as heart warming as to see Keanna working the crowd at school and then see her spot my car and then she comes running over, full of reports on injuries on the playground, evil children who have gotten her in trouble for talking, new wonderful moments with her teacher, green or blue behavior awards for the day, her requesting over and over, can we go to the Dollar Tree?  One of these days I'm going to have to break down and take her again.  Having her stand beside my desk and race through her homework like its a fun game, did I ever do that?  Sure don't remember. And there is Kallie who comes in, finds me and races into my legs with her arms out wide, who wants to feed Starr treats, who wants to find the dollies, who has her own agenda and loves to come to Pappa's house.

You know I must be doing something right, to be so blessed with these incredible kiddos.  And I enjoy the challenge of trying to keep up with my bright adults, Steve with his ability to learn so fast, his boundless energy, Nikki who manages to keep us all together, organized and doing fun and enjoyable things, who balances work, travel, kiddos, groceries, and a whole lot more, Jo who has to cope with Timothy's allergies, who does not let a spec of dust land on her floors, who keeps on creating new dishes that taste great and are healthy, who keeps putting photos of kiddos on face book, who is steadfast and loyal and Jason who has more ideas, opinions, plans, hopes and a zest for life that is contagious.  A teacher that is feared and loved by his students.

Wow I am lucky and blessed.

Here comes the week, lets go!

Visiting the kiddos

Good evening

So this is a report from MBA.  We had a great time, great food, an enjoyable time.  Timothy is so active, charming and lets you know right away he is glad to see you.  Mia is smiles, crawling rapidly now and pulling herself up, soon she will walk and then the fun really starts.

We drove down this morning and except for some slow traffic over 17 the trip was uneventful.  Timing things carefully we arrived just in time for a terrific potluck  across the street.  We had taken Starr with us and she seemed to enjoy the day a lot.  I kept her on a large towel so she could be comfortable.  But now we are home she is out cold, tired from all the excitement.  I think I'll try that too, out cold. Well as soon as I remake the bed, I pulled the sheets this morning once I crawled out.

The weather changed as we descended the mountain on Highway 17.  We could see the marine layer and once arriving at MBA it was downright cold. Of course I was in shorts but the chilly weather just seemed really wonderful for a change.  This evening Jo whipped up some really really tasty vegan food and everything was perfect.  Thank you Jason and Jo for sharing a really  great afternoon with us.

Love to all,

Tim

Another week into the history books

Good evening,
As I write the weather is showing some variation on the hot summer theme.  Thunder and lightning with some huge rain drops are hitting.  The humidity has risen drastically and the sun has dropped into the horizon.

This week has produced some incredibly happy moments, Kallie coming charging in and throwing herself into my arms, saying Pappa, pappa as loudly as she can.  Then there is Keanna standing by my work chair doing her homework and every week it seems she is even more brilliant.  Her cursive writing is beautiful, her timed spelling tests are a breeze and she reads with expression and understanding.  She loves her teacher, enjoys homework club after school a couple days a week and enjoys soccer, gymnastics, swimming, dancing, well you name it and the girls do it.

I so enjoyed watching them on Wednesday evening as Nikki and Steve went on a date.  The girls are just full of life and ideas, they play flat out until time to crash and then they resist crashing.

This week Steve and I have worked closely in getting work out the door.  He is a pretty amazing guy and learns so fast.  We have both struggled with the new UAD way of writing up our reports.  Frankly its a mess and a huge waste of time, its also something we cannot avoid so both of us have waded in and written our first reports now.  Yes it took several hours longer than normal to get them written but the learning curve works and the next one will be easier and so forth.

At this moment I have 22 orders on my board.  Marilyn has the board so one can read it now, has set the orders up and has helped a lot getting things more organized as there is very little time to waste right now.

So now its Sabbath, and all this work stuff can take a hike for a bit, time to crank up the christian dish and see who is preaching.

Sending love to all,

Tim

Another long one

Hi
We are finally getting the warm weather.  I guess today was nearly 100 but I was just too busy to notice.  I started the day with doing research and then met Steve at a property in Brentwood.  After that he went to find food and deal with a painful headache and I drove to San Leandro to arrive on time for a 11 am appointment.  The people were great and it was hard to get away, they have lived in the house ever since it was built many years ago.

Then it was time to head to Alameda where I inspected a townhome, shot the comps and turned for home.  I decided to detour back to Norris Canyon Estates to shoot one more photo and with the appraisal just emailed to the lender I'm glad I did.  My photos just look better than taking them from  the MLS system.  This evening I was disappointed that I could not reach a source that I use for data.  Then I realized it is located in San Diego and no one has power down there this evening, its a mess.

Now its past bedtime and I'm very thankful for a chance to rest.  The orders keep coming in so we will be busy for awhile.

Sending love to all the precious people that I know out there family and friends,  just wish I could spend more time with you.

Tim

A Time to Reflect

Dear Family and Friends,
This evening I'm writing my Nikki's very nice laptop.  She and Steve are enjoying a night out and I was given the chance to take a break from a nasty trouble filled day and relax with these precious little kiddos.  Coaxing Kallie to finish her yogurt so she could finish some ice cream was a challenge.  She just loves life and had a hard time sticking to the chair so she could finish her meal.  Then she played, dancing, bouncing, balancing until it was finally time for her to give it up and crash.  She did not give it up easily, she wanted to keep playing but finally settled into her little bed for the night.  Some time ago Nikki and Steve upgraded their heating and cooling system into a zoned one so upstairs is wonderfully cool so sleeping comes easily for all.
Keanna was relaxed this evening and enjoyed winding down with a kids program on TV and playing games with my IPHONE.  I can always tell when she has had the phone as the battery is nearly dead at the end of the day.  She always asks before downloading a new game and so far has treated the phone with respect.

I rolled out at 7 after working until midnight last night.  I went right to work doing research for today and figuring out where I was going and what I was going to do with the day.  At 10:20 I arrived in Walnut Creek to inspect the really high quality townhome.  The owner was a specialist in saving energy and has a lab at the University of California.  He was very interesting to chat with.

Once that inspection was completed I raced back home to pick up Keanna from school.  After a quick stop at McDonalds we went home and I went back to work.  Keanna comes and stands beside my chair and does her homework.  She is becoming quite the reader, does well with cursive writing and her spelling is amazing.  She is confident, proud of her abilities and is just doing great.  Her teacher is amazing and Keanna loves her so much.  Once the homework was completed I resumed writing a review of the propert I inspected in Napa on Monday and then moved on to a nearly two million dollar home in San Ramon.  I'm not done with that one, as i started 3 times the power went off and I had to start over.  Then for quite awhile the internet did not work so progress was very slow.  At this point I'm very behind and need to have more of me to get caught up.  The stress level grew and grew this afternoon as I realized that I would not be completing the big one today, things just kept getting in the way.  My desk computer is growing very slow, its nearly 8 years old and failing fast yet I need it to make my income.  As always there are many places to put the money that comes in and right now there is not enough to cover everything I face.

A brief report on the motorhome.  It looks even better in the light.  It is so clean that it sparkles.  The renters really did a super job of cleaning it inside and out.  There are times I wish I could just take off, drive to Mendocino and walk the beaches for a couple days.  At the present I have put all exercise, all down time and anything but work aside yet I'm still not keeping up.

We had a warm day today and the AC churned quite a bit.  Starr shares my office so stays cool with the little AC in my window.  She is very happy to have a different water bowl.  One that has a lower lip so she can drink while she lays down and refills itself.  Thanks to Lois and Ray for the loan of that nifty little device.  Marilyn found some larger pads and today Starr managed to fill several of them.  I think it comes from drinking so much water.

Well I expect the kids home later so perhaps I'll catch some sleep in this comfortable chair.

This evening as I've been with the little ones I had time to remember just how wonderful it is to have both my kids so nearby and to be able to enjoy the little ones.  I walked the hallway upstairs and enjoyed the dozens of photos of the family, of when Nikki and Steve had just met, the trips, their friends.  Nikki and Steve have worked so hard to make this home special.  The reef tank that Steve has set up right now is a total work of art.  Is is so beautiful and fun to watch the little creatures, fish and corals. the crabs and with special lighting it is really perfect.

So I'm sending love to all,

Tim

A Quickie

Hi
Long day, high point was seeing Kallie this afternoon when she and steve came, brought the dogs to swim and she tried her hand at throwing the ball into the lake.  Great fun.

Another nice moment was seeing the motorhome in front of the house.  Our current renters did a great job of leaving the dust of the desert with the Burning Man.  They had the coach professional washed in Reno and then hired a house keeper to clean the interior once they arrive in Oakland.  It came home in beautiful condition.

Well tomorrow is yet another day, sending love to all,

Tim

Well we did pray for work!!

The day started at 6:10 with the thrill sounds of an alarm waking me from some delightful dream.  Oh how I wanted to just go back to bed but knowing what was to come I resisted.

Quickly dressing for a warm day I headed downstairs, grabbed a boiled egg and waters, did quick research and left for Richmond.  Upon arriving the owners were waiting outside for me but the tenants were not awake and resisted the early morning inspection.  Finally through patient insistance the owners gained access.  There were many bodies in the house, not sure how they were all related but anyway I got my photos and was on my way.  The comps I had carefully selected did NOT work.  The sales were just way too nice so I scrambled to find others more similar to the subject and on the same side of the freeway.  I think I found enough. Then it was on to Martinez to see a townhome.  The Jewish lady was leaving for 2 weeks in New York and she was excited.  We had a nice discussion about Carnegie Hall and various places to eat and then I was on my way again.  By this point I was seriously hungry so the GPS found a Burger King and I had an agreeable lunch.

It was now time to head to Berkeley to do a field review and the sales price had been 2.1 million so the comps were spread all over Berkeley from beside the Claremont Hotel to the top of the hills near the north end of Berkeley.  It took some time to wind my way all over the hills and through the crowds, can we say, holiday in Berkeley, wild long line for an ice cream parlor, people all over the streets, the parks, the sidewalks so it was slow going.  Finally I had finished the last of the comps and headed to Napa.  I had no idea what I was about to head into!

The one in Napa was an appraisal of a property with 10 acres near Lake Berryessa (sp).  The appraiser had selected comparables that ranged in location from Fairfield to the hills west of Napa heading for Sonoma.  It took 4 hours and over 60 miles of driving to reach all the comparables he had chosen, shoot a photo and move on.  Thank goodness for the GPS which never failed once but its hard to be patient when you need to find a place to find a snack, go to the bathroom or just find a straight road instead of switchbacks and narrow mountain paths they call roads.  It was an ordeal and I shot the last photo on Old Sonoma Road as darkness was approaching.  Had I checked out all the details I would have asked for a higher fee or turned it down.  Something to remember for the future.

Now I'm home arriving at about 9 pm.  I had a nice talk with Jerry who had to hang up, ice cream was waiting and Lois who had been pestering me to get home so we could go to get Burritos.  Oh how I would have loved to be home in time but it was not to be.

When I got home Starr was in a bit of a mess, she had rolled onto her side, had gone to the bathroom on her pad and desperately needed to drink some water.  Now she is fully recovered and not even barking at me anymore.  She does not like me to be gone so long but of course if she wants future dog food then I'll have to be gone some of the time.

So now, the holiday is over and we all head back to what we do.

Love to all,

Tim

Am really enjoying the Joyce Meyer book, very good stuff on forgiveness and moving on with our lives.

Four out the door!

Dear Family, Friends and Curious onlookers,

So this has been a flat out work day.  I slept in this morning feeling I could use some rest.  Then I rolled out and picked up Starr from her towel where she sleeps, put her in the backet I carry her in and headed downstairs.  The morning was cool and beautiful.  Next on the agenda was cleaning my desk up so I could see what I needed to do.  The piles were deep.

Meanwhile I had steel cut oats courtesy of Sylvia cooking their 15 minutes on power level 4 in the microwave oven.  Having some very ripe bananas on hand I sliced up one into the oatmeal.  Oh it was good and hearty.

Then it was back to the office to sort items, to clean up conditions that were stacking up and then finally around noon I was able to start to do writeups.  I've worked non stop since then and its just after 10 now.  During that time I've written up 4 reports, all due and with anxious clients waiting.  Now there are some blank spot on the board where these orders have been completed.  It feels very good.

During bathroom breaks I've been reading the Joyce Meyer book Dolly shipped to me.  It was full of incredible stuff today, stuff that hit me right in the heart.  The themes were accepting God's forgiveness and then moving on, not living in a world of darkness and guilt but in a world of light and production.  Every word hit home and really helped.

This morning I sent an email to Linda, Richard's wife.  Richard is our long time friend who lives in Hilo who just died from GIST.  I felt I needed to reach out, especially after I came across a recent email from Richard to me about Nan's courage and our friendship.  A short time later she responded and it was a very meaningful exchange between to survivers who have lost loved ones to GIST.  She is coping as well as she can but oh those first few days are like sleep walking, you just can't believe it has happened and everything seems just over, finished, hopeless.

Now I law me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep.........

Love to all

Tim

Sabbath rest was good

Dear Family and Friends,
This morning I slept in.  After an intense week it felt good to just wake up naturally.  I slipped downstairs and took time to rinse off the bug, then had a whole wheat bagel and oatmeal.  Visited Tracy SDA Worship Hour and heard an interesting sermon by one of the laypeople.  Unfortunately I found myself nodding off at times but I think I got most of it.

This afternoon I rested a bit, watched some really good programs on the Christian dish and then swept the back deck.  Starr also got a bath this afternoon and she really needed it.

This evening I had desert with a friend at the Stockton Marie Calendar's, rubarb pie, excellent but they have such tiny pieces now but the price is the same.

Now its bed time and a very big workday tomorrow.  How nice God knew we needed to put on the brakes every 7 days and just catch out breath.

So I'm sending love to all,

Tim

The Sabbath is here

Dear Family and Friends

Finally I'm home from a couple hundred miles of driving and 5 properties today.  Steve and I inspected a very nice property in Discovery Bay, the owner is an artist and the home is filled with wonderful pieces and artwork.

Next I drove to Mountain View and arrived on time.  The appraisal went well, lovely property.  Then off to Alamo where a neighbor let me into a large home.  The owners are in China on a trip and they finally arranged for access for me.  It was very hot and I was glad to finally be through with the measurement process.  Then it was on to do a exterior appraisal of another large home in Alamo.  Once the comps were shot I headed to San Ramon.  I was not prepared for what I found.

It was clearly the best located property in the whole hillside development.  It took about 7 photos to capture the view which extends all the way around the home.  It was about 5800 sf of high quality construction with perfect amenities.  Once I was completed I headed home and shot a few photos in Livermore to finish out another appraisal that I started yesterday.

Today Borden Junction people installed new front brakes on the bug.  Since it was grinding so badly yesterday that I used the hand brake to stop the car.  How nice to have it work properly again.

Marilyn has left for Sac to see her friend Diana and perhaps her family as well.  She has been very helpful this week setting up files, getting groceries, preparing meals and yesterday even driving to Tracy to shoot comp photos.

I want to wish a Sabbath Blessing to you this weekend.  Enjoy God's rest, His work is completed, our sins are forgiven and we rest in His love.

My love to each and every one of you,

Tim

Dead Tired

Wow, what a day!

Up at 6, writing reports by 6:45, even had Marilyn out in Tracy today shooting photos for a ranchette I was working on.
At 5:50 I drove to Livermore and inspected a very interesting home.  The guy was even more interesting.  He has made a lot of money going to yard sales, finding treasures, then reselling them.  In his extra garage he had a tank he is rebuilding and in the garage some kind of military car, everywhere we walked there were treasures, the pool was paid for by a find at a yard sale which  turned out to be worth $15,000.  He once had one of the pairs of shoes from the wizard of oz and resold them for a healthy profit.  Recently he picked up a piece for 2 dollars, once in the car they check the iphone and discovered its worth over $300, a beautiful glass thing still in its original box.  Lots of fun.

This has been a week without any money coming in, putting out work like crazy but no funds coming in, tomorrow it could get a little crazy if something does not come in the mail, lets hope and pray for that.

To tired to talk more,

Good night,

Love
