Another perfect summer day, can they last?

When its the end of July and the night has cooled down 67 outside and the breezes are blowing through the office like a gale its pretty amazing.

This morning I worked for a bit then hit the road for Suisun City, where is that you say, well one takes the Brentwood Bypass to Oakley, crosses the Antioch bridge, toll $5.00!!, drives through little Rio Vista on Highway 12 and ends up at Fairfield on one side of the road and Suisun City on the other site.  This is a very old town with a small quaint downtown district, lots of very old and mediocre homes and open water, not sure where it comes from but its visible in the downtown district.

My subject was a two story duplex unit that had seen better days, not bad mind you but a little tired here and there.  When I climbed out of the bug I found stiff winds and in the distance I could see the marine layer of fog receding over the mountains in the distance.  I measured it quickly and then inspected the interior of the units.  While I was up on the ladder peeking into the attic I somehow scratched my arm and the Coumadin thinned blood began to drip out, it would not stop and I ended up with blood on the wall and continued seeping until I got back to the car.  I did get the blood off the wall but a layer of paint seemed to come off as well.  Lovely.

Once I had the comps shot I found an IHOP and enjoyed a delicious senior omelet with spinach, mushrooms and fresh tomatoes.  Wow it was great and just right.

On the way home passing through Brentwood I stopped to see the man who just installed the new injector pump in the bug.  The noise now coming from under the hood is way too loud.  Not sure why and Freddie did not solve it today but its a very loud car now, plenty of power but something is not right, I'm praying that somehow we can get the $1,300 repair completed in a quiet car once again.  Right now its LOUD.

This afternoon I've set up orders and finally this evening settled down to complete some reports.  I'm thankful to have some work and Steve and I will see one together in the morning on the golf course right after he drops his girls off.  I'll be at his house earlier when I pick up the boat and deliver it to a repair place known as Borden Junction, sure look forward to being on the water again if I can afford to buy gas after all these repair bills.

So its been a good productive day and this evening Marilyn created a stir fry and served it along with brown rice and cottage cheese, sliced tomatoes.  What a feast we had.

Love to all

So good to see Barb, Gerry and Michael,

This morning Pooka and I ventured out to the park in the very cool air.  Then it was back to a steel cut oats breakfast along with a single slice of wheat bread with fresh avocado and thin slices of fresh tomato, then to finish breakfast I had a fresh peach.  Talk about a great meal.

I prepared a field review of an appraisal recently completed in Brentwood and then we left for the Spaghetti Factory in Roseville.  We met Gerry, Barbie and Michael, their youngest son.  What an incredible time we had eating and chatting.  Gerry has lost 35 pounds and it really shows but he was in great spirits and enjoyed a small portion of his food.  We hope that he gets a new device for his heart that will make it work better and soon.  I think its in the works.

After our delightful lunch we drove a few miles to our afternoon appointment which was a little house built in the 60s with a some very nice owners.  Turns out the lady drives to Brentwood every week to care for two little ones for two days a week.

Once we left there we headed home and in Lodi decided to turn to Rio Vista on 12 and come into Brentwood the back way.  You see they had called and the bug was ready with its rebuilt injector pump.  Well it works great but it is much much more loud now, we will have to see about that, its really loud and the new sounds can be heard at all speeds, not very pleasant.

This evening we reinspected a property where upon the original inspection they had the garage divided into little rooms.  FHA wants the garage to function freely as a garage so I called for the removal of the dividers.  Today they finished that work and I had to reinspect.  The first time I went there my electronic key was dead and needed to be recharged so it was home to get the charger before we could access the house.  As long as we were there we went to Jalisco's for dinner, the food was very tasty.

Now we are home, the cars are parked in the garage and night is settling in.  It was so good to see Barb and Gerry, just to see them in action once again and listen to them talk, very special time.  And to catch up with Michael, he is an amazing guy, makes videos for UTube I think about how to fix things around the house, he is a contractor and can just do anything with his hands.  He built my back deck and the steps and steps are never easy.

Well I'm giving it up for the night, I'm worn out and ready to rest.

Love to all

Some days just click

Dear Family and Friends,

Up at 6:30 this morning, upload my license to some clients now that I have the new one, good for the next two years, then leave for Kaiser and Logina, my very special diabetes nurse.  I arrived with 3 minutes to spare and was called in a couple minutes later.  She just could not have been nicer to me.  I had some numbers taken over the last couple weeks and she plugged my meter into her computer and could chart when I had taken my blood and what the numbers said.  I was in the wrong side of normal slightly more than the right side and had an average of 178 when it should be 130 or less.  She carefully laid out where we needed to go in the future, gave me excellent pages she had prepared, showed me how to use my pen filled with short acting insulin and sent me on my way with excellent advice.

Then I went to the lab to have blood drawn for both the Coumadin clinic and to discover my current A1C.  I've not heard back yet.  The guy drawing blood informed me he was new and an intern or whatever, I said go ahead, he has to learn somehow.  While he took awhile to find the right place to stick his actual stick was perfect, painless and successful.

Then it was to Brentwood to shoot photos for a driveway review and home to do a bit of work and leave for Benicia.  Marilyn went with me and using the Civic we made a quick trip.  While I was waiting to see the diabetes nurse Nikki texted me to say Keanna was about to have surgery, my heart lept, then I remembered that she was having several teeth removed and was going to be put under for the procedure.  Later Nikki told me she had done fine but had a lot of bleeding to deal with.  Poor little dear girl, what a thing to go through.

After I checked out the Benicia house, which was perfect by the way, we drove the comps and decided we had time to fit in a driveby appraisal in Castro Valley.  The trip was uneventful and we managed to fit that one quickly.

Then we left for San Ramon where we were seeing a property located in a 55 and over community.  The home turned out to be perfect, updated and very well kept.  The people were great and friendly and soon it was over.

On the way home the traffic was bad so we stopped at Fuddruckers in Dublin and I had a vegeburger and salad.  It was perfect on its whole wheat bun with lettuce and tomato.  During the day I had started using the pen, the Humalog pen by Lilly.  You just dial in the amount of insulin you need for the meal you are about to eat, about 1 unit for each 15 carbs plus a little if you are running high for the day.  I will have to tweak it a bit as I'm still high this evening but I think it was a good start on my first day.

Now I'll take 32 units of long acting insulin for the night and morning and see if I can climb out at 130 or less.

Our weather has been incredible, cool and gentle breezes.  I just sat in the spa.  I found it to be 76 degrees and in less than 40 minutes it was 100 degrees and ready for an occupant.  It is so nice.

Tomorrow will be a very special day.  At 1 pm we are meeting Barb and Gerry Lammerding at a Spaghetti Factory off Highway 80.  I so hope Gerry is having a good day, it will just be wonderful to see them both and affirm that we are praying for them every morning.  Then we are driving to see a house in Citrus Heights at 3 pm before driving back home.

Freddie, my favorite mechanic for the bug has started working on the bug and expects to be through tomorrow.  He will be replacing the injector pump, the heart of a diesel engine with a rebuilt mine because after its 298,000 miles it has started to leak diesel out the side and they are not easily repaired, just replaced.  I'm looking forward to having it leak free as for the last few months I could often smell diesel while I drove and the smell of diesel is NOT pleasant at all.

I'm praying for work to come in but even more for Steve to get some orders.  Its a very dry time after months of being buried with work.  Gradually the bank balance is sinking but at least in August I won't be paying $976 for Kaiser, only about $185 total, that will help.  I'm also very thrilled that the Citi bank card, the one we used for the trips to Boston, the hotels, the airline tickets, the food, well I started paying on it at $40,000 and its now $13,000.  I call that progress for sure and I'm thrilled that its getting reduced.  The Citi bank people froze all interest on the account so my $526 payment each month goes totally to interest.  What a difference that makes when paying off a huge account.

I'm so thankful to a loving God who continues to bless in spite of me being a very weak vessel.  He is good and I'm thankful.

Love to all

Mellow Sunday

Good evening,

So just back from Taco Bell in Brentwood.  I had an appointment this evening that was first at 5 pm, then 6 and finally 7 pm so the owner could finish fixing the fence.

I arrived on time and found the couple to be incredible people, so grounded and funny and both much younger looking than their actual ages.  She is from Hawaii and I think he is probably Hispanic but they are both really fun.  In fact it was hard to get my work done and leave, so nice.  They are picking up a short sale for a decent price and have already done a lot of fixing.

Marilyn drove the Civic in to meet me at the East European Auto Repair where tomorrow they are putting the rebuilt injector pump in the bug.  I've already paid for the pump and now it will just be the amount to have it installed.  So tomorrow my journey will be in the Civic as I drive to Kaiser for a meeting with the diabetes expert, then do a driveby review in Brentwood and then back home to pick up Marilyn.

We'll leave for a 1:30 appointment in Benicia, then drive to Castro Valley to do a driveby inspection, then back to San Ramon and then home.  Just very thankful to have some work to do.

This morning I woke late after having a rough night, I was chilling and woke feeling really rough, lots of coughing like old times.  After breakfast I wandered out to the back deck and between Ray and I cutting we removed several more branches that neither of us wanted left on the tree.  Now there is a sea of branches on the ground between our homes.  After that I rested awhile, worked in the office some and ended up washing the bug, my it still looks good at 298,000 miles.

I hooked up the boat battery for the little fishing motor to the new solar system and tonight the voltage is 10.  Of course I don't know where I started voltage wise this afternoon when I attached it.  The instructions say I need a controller so it does not over charge the battery so I'll have to keep an eye on it.

Sending love to all,

Tim

A perfect day

What a nice day, the weather was perfect and I've been in the spa twice, this morning after our walk to the park and just now at the end of the evening.

Kallie was in swim meet today and Keanna was in soccer bootcamp.

I managed to knock some branches off the tree in the backyard and we had lunch at BJ's in Stockton.  The food was good, whole wheat buns and a garden burger with lots of lettuce.  What a feast.

So its been a laid back day with lots of rest and relaxation.

On my prayer list right now is Dollie and Ken as Ken recovers from a broken hip, Glen Connor and Bob Sorensen who have lost their special ones, my sister who is battling in the hospital with a number of problems, Gerry and Barbie as they wrestle with Gerry's health issues.

Love to all,

Tim

Friday evening

Dear Friends and Family,

Its beginning to cool off outside at last and I'm on my way to the spa soon.  I'm really enjoying the spa, nice to have it working again.

This evening I had dinner with Janice and it was great to see her again.  A lot has happened since we spoke last, her mom died after gradually getting weaker but Janice was able to be with her.  Still it is a hit when you lose a parent, there is no replacing a parent ever.  They are the people who have to like you no matter what and they do a great job with their love.

We ate at Grazie's which is a local classy place that is located at the Streets of Brentwood, our outdoor mall.  The salads are unusually good there and they make a soup that worth driving there for.  Tonight we were hearing background music and it was a sax, really nicely done but you can imagine our surprise when we looked up to see that the sax was live and the player was moving about the entire place playing with a track of orchestra background.  Wow, he was good, smooth and totally enjoyable.  It was very nice atmosphere for our meal.

Today I've been writing reports, ones that Jessy started.  Also several new orders came in as well and that was a real blessing.

Jason just texted to say that his day went well, he had some sort of meeting with judges today and they let him know he did well.  These are tense days for him as he completes his summer session.

Well I'm hoping for each of you a meaningful weekend with time to share love and kind words of support to each other.

Love to each of you this evening,

Tim

Working in, staying cool

So I'm just back from having a birthday snack with Ray and Lois.  Its a perfect night on their back deck.

Earlier I had just completed another appraisal and was ready to do something else.  We drove over to Spaghetti Factory in Stockton where they had a special for their classic meals today.

This morning I walked Pooka to the park and then came back to sit in the spa for awhile.  I had coffee, a little radio, my phone and warm relaxing water.  It was great.

I woke to a Blood Sugar level of just 133 today, best in awhile.

Today I continued to deal with stuff I've been putting off.  Today I sent in my application for E&O insurance for my next work year, it starts on August 29 so I had to get cracking.  Everyone I work with wants to have the certificate in their data banks long before it expires.

A couple orders came in today and I'm set to see a property tomorrow afternoon.  Then I'm having dinner with my friend Janice at Grazies at the Streets of Brentwood.  That will be enjoyable as I've not seen her in awhile.

Now I'm off to bed and so full of good food.

Sending love to all,

Tim

here is a precious photo of Kallie that Keanna sent to me the other day from her own email account.  I just love how she caught Kallie, I think its a great photo of a very special little person.

Good evening

I'm glad to be home after a delightful day.

First off I inspected a quadruplex this morning in Antioch.  A very nice young woman met me and had keys to all the 4 units.  All went well until we arrived at the last unit.  All of the tenants had been mailed a letter plus called on the phone informing them that we would be coming.

At the last door we knocked, then louder knocking and finally the agent used her key and opened the door, she stepped in and in a second she came back with a shocked look on her face, she mouthed the words, someone is in the bed sleeping.  So I started loudly announcing, Appraiser over and over again each time raising the volume until I was pretty loud.  Finally the lady stirred and emerged from the bedroom wrapping a robe around herself as she walked in the living room.  Turns out she had only gone to bed at 7 this morning after working a night shift doing something.  We quickly did the inspection, I snapped the photos I needed and we did a hasty retreat.  Quite shocking since in this day and age and in the neighborhood we were in it would not have been surprising to face a gun.

With that exciting experience behind me I drove home to work in the office.  My next challenge was to discover if in fact I had medicare approved or not so after a bit of fighting the system and giving up on calling, it was a 26 minute wait!  Finally I arrived at a page that said I was signed up for medicare part A and part B.  With the information printed out I called the number for Kaiser and was moved to a person who took a phone application for Kaiser Senior Advantage which includes part D as well.  So I think I am signed up for Medicare, for Kaiser and I called the broker, the one I paid $976 a month to and cancelled.  How nice to not have to pay so much money.  Its a blessing.  I also heard from Social Security and it looks like I'm set for $2,148 a month in a year when I sign up at 66.  That will be nice as well.

At 3:50 I picked up Kallie from her school, I found her with a little girl and Kallie was cutting out something from a page for the little girl and Kallie would not leave until she had finished helping the little one, I thought it was sweet.  Then we drove to Nikki and STeve's where I dropped Kallie off so she could go to swim meet.

Then I drove to Dublin and met Jason for dinner and a movie.  We had a great time, his family is enjoying Redwood Campmeeting this week with family and friends.  Jason is approaching the mid point in his law school process and is facing some huge tests soon so this week is dedicated to preparing for the tests to come.

Now I'm home and very ready to hit the sheets.

Sending love to all and special thoughts to my dear friends Gerry and Barbie.

Back to work

Well I've just come in from sitting in the spa, we are still experimenting with the settings to find just the right temperature.  Ray came over tonight and chatted while Marilyn was reading a book on her nook until the light gave out.

I enjoyed the warm water and the relaxation it afforded.  Now I'm in to write this brief epistle and then crash for the night.

This morning I rolled out at 6:20 and came down to work.  After a breakfast of Wheaties and soy milk I started doing research for the day.  I had a refi in Hercules, a refi of a quadruplex in San Pablo and a little house in Richmond.  Amazingly the owner of the house in Richmond left a loose key on the top of the gas meter for me so that one was easy.  But try as I might I could not locate the access to the attic in the home, still not sure how to get up there.

Then it was time to see the quadruplex.  I always cringe when doing one of these as they are complicated and getting inside each unit is usually a hassle.  But today was different.  A young man was sweeping the concrete and when I handed him my card he said he was my contact.  Every unit opened to his knock and I was shown through, it was good he was there as spoke no Spanish and most spoke no English.  The units were clean as a pin and well cared for.  Before I knew it was done and back in my car.  Wow what a blessing.

Then it was time to see the Hercules home.  I arrived early so shot the comparables first.  Once I started measuring I discovered that I had seen the house before when they purchased it.  I enjoyed my visit with the owner, a really terrific lady and her two grown up children.  Her son was about 25 and in the conversation it came out that he attended PUC some time ago.  He said he could not stay as he could not take the food, no meat and that he gained too much weight while he was there.  How interesting to discover someone who attended the same college I attended so many years ago.

Then I headed home but the traffic was thin and soon I was here.  Then Marilyn and I went to the deal night at our pizza parlor and I had a huge salad and a couple pieces of pizza.

All in all not a bad day back after the strange day yesterday.  I'm back on the rat poison that thins my blood, warfarin or whatever they call it.

This morning I had a very nice conversation with a diabetes expert who called from Kaiser.  She instructed me to increase the amount of long acting cloudy insulin 2 units every two days until I reach a point where my wake up blood sugar is 130 or less.  Now I know what to do and next Monday she will instruct me in how to use the pen.  Basically I will use 1 unit of fast acting insulin for each 15 grams of carbs I will be eating at a meal.  Finally a tool to deal with reality.  And the most important point she made was this, if I start the day too high then I'm likely to be too high all day, makes perfect sense.

Sending love to all,  enjoying the cool weather, July and 80 degrees is fine in my book.

Its over and it was good to eat

Dear Family and Friends,

I woke to a very hungry world this morning but soon I was up and busy.  I drove to the hospital which is about 35 minutes and had a blood draw to determine the blood thickness.  Then I raced back home to start drinking the last 2 liters.  While I drank, made frequent trips to the restroom and worked on an appraisal I watched the clock as I was very anxious to be able to leave for the procedure.  Finally it was time and we drove to the Kaiser hospital on Sand Creek, a beautiful new facility and signed in, no co pay at that time anyway.  Then to the waiting room.  Soon I was showed to my little cube where I lost all my clothes and got issued a very snazzy hospital gown but it was missing its back!  Two very funny guys came in and one worked the computer while the other did an EKG and inserted an IV.  They are never fun.

Soon I was whisked away to the operating theatre and there was more funny banter there.  Suddenly the doctor arrived and he was funnier than the rest.  He went over the dire possibilities, puncturing the wall of the bowl and other possible outcomes.  Then they signaled the beginning and in a few seconds I was sleeping, the next thing I knew I was waking up and before long Marilyn was escorting me from the hospital.  We drove directly to Sylvia's cafe and found it locked up solid, bummer.  Its my go to place when I am at the hospital.  So we changed course for UNOs where soup waited.

Once I got home I was mostly lazy not feeling to spunky.  Then I decided to sit in the spa and found it was 79 degrees.  Yet in a very few minutes I went out and it was 96.  I opened it up and slipped in to the warm and circulating water.  I ended up staying there for about 30 minutes, Marilyn came out on the upper deck and kept an eye on me.  I so enjoyed the spa and the warm water.

Now I'm getting ready to head to bed.  Its been a good day and so far the report is that they snipped a couple polyps  and that all was well.   That was very good news, the news I had prayed for and hoped for.

So wishing all of you a very good night,

Love

Preparing for the big event!

So the last time I had a bite to eat was last night at midnight, not that I was eating then but from midnight on no food and oh how I miss it.

Today I've been fasting other than white grape juice and a jello.  I've done two appraisals this afternoon, one in Rio Vista and one near Bethel Island, made a trip to Costco and managed to miss the lab hours at the hospital so I've got to race there in the morning to get a blood draw so they will know how thin it is before doing the colonoscopy at 1 pm.

I'm hungry and for the last couple hours have been drinking the special roto rooter stuff which has not yet worked but it soon will as I have over a liter and a 1/2 already in my gut.  While I've been drinking I've been writing a relocation appraisal so tucked away $500 for my trouble, that helps.  While I'd like to hit the spa I'm a little concerned as it is a long ways from the bathroom and for those of you old enough to have experienced the pleasures of preparing for the event you know how much reading you can get done in the bathroom during this time.

I'm so very thankful to be having this procedure done.  Since they took out my appendix and found the tumor I've had a lingering concern about what might be growing slowly inside.  This will go a long ways to answering that question.

I've just spoken to Nikki and Steve and they are on their way home from seeing the Giants play today.  They have been there a long time as they got there early to get the stuff for the girls that was given away today.  Then traffic has been awful for them but they sound happy, had dinner at the Spaghetti Factory in Concord and are enjoying a day as a family.

Now on the other hand Jason is wrestling with a huge paper that he is turning in tomorrow.  It is so serious that it has to be bound by Kinkos and I think he is just about completed with it.  Jo is back from a week in Vegas taking classes for continuing education for her teaching career and Clayton is helping with baby sitting.

Well I'm going to wrap this up. By the time I write again tomorrow evening I'll have some news about what they find, at least some news and I'll be able to eat again, oh I'm looking forward to that for sure.

Sending love to all,

Tim

Church was great

Reporting on a really terrific Sabbath day.

I started the day off by climbing in the spa at around 8 this morning.  It was 84 degrees and on the cold side but the heater was working and in a few minutes it was 96 and very comfortable.  I was sipping some decaf as I enjoyed the morning breezes and the warm rippling waters.

After showering away the chlorine I dressed in clothes for church as I was determined to be in church.  Then Lois texted to see if I wanted to join her at McDonalds for breakfast which I did.

As I was driving to church and Tracy Lois texted me she did not feel well and could I drive her home.  I called Marilyn who was at home and she picked Lois up.  She has been fighting a very stiff neck and had lots of pain.  Later we got her suv back home for her.  Ray is home tonight so that should help her feel better.

We had a nice lunch at Olive Garden and enjoyed a surprise guest who joined us, what an enjoyable time with great friends and great food.

Late this afternoon we ventured out to pick up some needed things for tomorrow's fast, nothing but liquid for the whole day, bummer.  We got everything they suggested for the day to drink and at 4 pm I get to start on the really good stuff, the stuff in the big jug that keeps you pretty near the bathroom.  Anything for a good time I guess.

This evening I received a troubling email from Barbie Lammerding.  Gerry is in the hospital and is not feeling very well.  I know they both would appreciate our prayers as Gerry is facing special challenges ahead.  They are very precious to me and have been for many years.  Great friends are for ever and they are the greatest one could hope for.

Sending love to all tonight.

The week closes

Dear family and friends,
Finally it is Friday and the work is over. Gradually the weather is warming up and it feels like summer!
I'm sure enjoying the spa every night. It's a nice way to see the stars. Now to fix the deck but ill wait until my blood is thin again after Mondays colonoscopy. Right now my blood is thicker than it has been for months and my stroke risk is higher.
Work is very slow but a couple new orders came in today.
I found out today that the boat has teeth missing on the flywheel and that means $1300 more repair dollars. Yikes
Well I hope you all have a great weekend!

Love to all

Tim

So slow

Slow is good when driving on snow, when eating a great meal and when walking the beach with your best friend but slow in my work is NOT good.  I tend to slow down right along with the lack of orders.

This morning I went out and started cutting up branches that I had cut off the tree so I could have a lake view again.  After awhile I came in and had breakfast, then to work in the office.

Had a griller for lunch and they are still great tasting, especially when you can have a cut up tomato along with it, just great.

Mid afternoon I left for Dublin where I finally found my subject property.  Its a 3 story detached little home on a tiny site with the garage off the back on its own narrow driveway.  My problem came when I tried to get organized.  I had keys from the gal at the tract office, my new camera, keys to the car, my phone, my measuring wheel and I just could not get it all together, then I dropped the keys into my pocket and they fell through the bottom of the pocket lining, lovely and of course it was about 96 degrees too and there was yellow warning tape in front of the house since the landscapers are removing the landscaping and replacing it with something else.  Eventually I got it together and did the job.  Its just an OK place with about 2,000 sf and costs over $700,000.  Wow is there ever a location location location thing.  Its near BART and downtown Dublin where everything you could want is nearby but really 3/4 of a million for a little place, wow.

Once I got home we decided to invite Lois and eat at Subway so we all enjoyed nice sandwiches and drinks along with Fritos.  Upon arriving back at the house I went to work to complete an report and its shipped out now.

Now I'm heading to the spa for some R&R, then bed.

Love to all,  got to admit I have the upcoming colostomy on my mind all the time, will be glad to face it and put it behind me!

Fresh from the spa

Greetings from Willow Lake

The spa is really cranking, I went out to check the temp.  It was 90 just sitting there with the lid closed so I turned on the heater, no good until I turned the heater value to full and then it lit and stayed lit, the next time I went out it was 100.  Well on a night when the ambient air is 70 a spa with 100 degree water is just too much so I only lasted a few minutes and that was with the air blower blowing lots of bubbles which tend to cool the water a bit.  Any way I'm back in and got to enjoy it.

When I woke this morning at 6 I prayed and then headed directly downstairs to work on putting in the new faucet in the kitchen.  I had taken the last one back and they credited the money to my card.  Then I proceeded to buy a much better one with a tall faucet that would allow for the filling of buckets and pots.  It was made out of steel instead of plastic and it works so much better.  It took me some time to get it fully installed and of course I'm sore from stretching and reaching but its in and works perfectly, I'm so pleased with it.

Then since I was on a roll I ventured out front and hooked the box trailer to the civic and backed it deep into the RV parking place beside the garage.  Then I opened it and unloaded my 10 pressure treated 2 x 6s onto the concrete.  Then I pulled the trailer out to the street and backed the motorhome into its place beside the garage.  Let me tell you there is no time when backing the coach that I dare to look away, it is inches on all sides and one wrong twist of the wheel and the motorhome roof is scraping the tiles on the house roof, or the fence on the other side or the mirror as it passes through the gate.  Anyway it is once again put away in its place, the coach battery is turned off, the front window is shaded.  It was then time to back the trailer into its place just in front of the gate and then park both cars in the driveway while I rearranged boxes for Jessy.  After she finishes her work on a file it needs to be stored in the garage for the next five years.  She had boxes ready but no place to put them.  Her pleas finally were heard and now she has spaces for the boxes she so carefully prepares.

Jessy came today and cranked out a bunch of work, prepared a deposit for the bank and went to Brentwood to take comp photos I did not take last evening.  What a find she is, so capable and so easy to work with.

Well I'm cooling down from my time in the spa now and getting ready for bed.

The bug has a new injection pump on its way for $800.  When it arrives I'll have it installed and then I won't smell diesel all the time.  The injector pump still works perfectly but its allowing diesel to run down the side of the case so is on its way to fail.  Its sort of the heart of a diesel engine and with nearly 300,000 miles on it I can't complain at all.  In fact I'm very thankful.

This evening found Marilyn and I in Tracy where I purchased a new work camera from Best Buy. The package came with an extra battery and its a good name, Canon so I think I'll get lots of photos out of it before it fails.  I'll put the old one in for cleaning so I'll have a back up as well as a new regular camera.  Cameras are pretty much gone now, everyone takes their photos with the phones, how quickly things change and move on.

Sending love to all,

It works

Just now upon returning to home from a birthday dinner with the girls and Marilyn I decided to once again try to start the spa heater.  So I went out and tried but it went out and then it didn't and now the spa is heating rapidly and in a few minutes I'm going to sit in it.  I can't believe it, it will finally be useful again, not that its done, there are still things to do to it, minor repairs, decking and such.

This has been a day to inspection but they were all local which was great.

This morning I went on line and signed up for Medicare, it went smoothly and I check back in 5 days to make sure everything is in order.  I'm so ready for my out of picket costs to drop a lot, more money for the Tesla payment, just kidding but oh I wish, what a car, most beautiful shape I've ever seen, even better than a Jag and that is something.

I have so many projects started right now, spa, sink faucet for kitchen, new modem for internet, mow front lawn, fix deck and on and on.

Today is my last day on the blood thinner until the Monday colostomy at 1 pm.  Then I restart the meds and in between its a stroke risk, yikes I hope things hold together for me.

Sending love to all, I'm going to sit in the spa!

Anthony flys home to Texas

Do you know how complicated it is to send a child across the country?  Well I found out today.

It was time for Anthony to return to his home as his soccer season was about to start and he plays on a high ranking team.

I started the day with steel cut oats and then worked in the office for awhile, then at noon we left to pick up the boy, loaded him up and then headed to see a condo in Concord on the way.  Marilyn went along and they rested in the bug as I did the appraisal of the two story townhouse.  Then we caught lunch at IHOP, love those crepes!

We arrived at the Oakland airport about 3:30 and approached the ticket counter, we had our forms already filled and after about 20 minutes the people behind the counter make it work, gave Marilyn and I passes so we could go with him to his gate.  After a stop at Starbucks we began our wait for the boarding time.  It was delayed and we let Dana know she would be making a late trip to the airport.  Finally they boarded Anthony first and we were required to wait right there until the plan had left the ground and was on its way.

By then the traffic had thinned and our trip home was rapid and smooth.

Now its bed time and the evening has cooled off nicely.  Ray has the spa nearly ready to go having sealed one leak and chasing another.  How nice it will be to sit in the spa again and enjoy the warm relaxing water.

For now its bed time so I'm sending love and peace to all,

Tim

Very productive sunday

How was your sunday?  Mine was pretty busy.

This morning I first drove to Pleasanton to a certain Starbucks, waited about 25 minutes and was handed my wallet and phone, it was so nice to see them again and to find everything still there.  I celebrated by having a blue berry muffin and a skinny mocha.  On the way home I filled the bug so its ready for the week.

Once I was home I worked with Ray to installed a new jet in the spa which involved taking all of the old silicone out and getting the parts positioned just right and installing the new one, turned out to be complicated but Ray figured out how to make it work and its reinstalled.

Then I asked Ray to take a look at the new faucet I installed about 3 months ago.  I got under and loosened it but the o ring would not seat correctly.  Finally we pulled the whole thing out and took it back to Home Depot.

We took the motorhome and trailer and got stuck when a terrible accident closed the Brentwood Bypass, we had to turn around with the 29 foot motorhome and 18 foot trailer but managed it OK, wasted an hour in traffic but eventually got to In & Out Burger for dinner, then to Home Depot where they searched with my credit card and found out  when I purchased the faucet, refunded the money so I could buy a better one that was built better.  Then running out of time we hurried to the lumber and purchased 10 2 x 6 treated boards that were 12 feet long.  They fit in the trailer perfectly and right now the motorhome and trailer are sitting in front of the house on the street.  I'm too tired to unload, the same with the faucet.  too tired to install and of course this one is much more complicated to install but appears to be much better made.

Right now I'm looking to a shower and bed.  Marilyn and Ray have been big helps today in the projects.  It feels good to get things done, soon the spa will be working and I can enjoy sitting and relaxing at the end of the day.  Its not worked right for a couple years so this will be thrilling.  Steve reports that the service people found a bad part in the boat electronics and they are trying to fix that.

It was nice to drive the motorhome today, to once again be in the drivers seat and just use something that costs so much every month and is rarely used.

Good night to all,

Sending love,

Tim

Gentle Sabbath

Rolled out around 8 this morning, came down and made some iced coffee, journeyed out to the lake boat and took a spin with almost no wind, just lovely cool morning air with the beautiful lake surrounding me.

Marilyn was up and sipping her morning brew and we planned to go to breakfast, well Anthony slept and slept,  finally when it was time to leave at 12 to drive to meet Bob at marie calenders in Stockton Anthony woke, showered and joined the world.

Lunch was so very good today, their potato cheese soup in incredible and their salad bar has so many selections that the meal was just excellent.  Everyone was pleased with their meal.  Bob shared a small book on grief that is proving to be helpful to him and several of the pages are so spot on, just perfect words and counsel.

We drifted back home and planned to rest but Nikki and the girls arrived, soon we were out on the lake, Anthony had Kallie in the green boat and before long they had caught  a little fish, Keanna and I were in a paddle boat and caught up with them, then Kallie came over to the paddle boat and we all headed back, it was a warm afternoon and I feel the sun on my forehead now.

They had things to do and left.  We left to pick up their gift for Timothy and then picked up our gift at Toys R Us in Dublin and also picked up a little pig that talks for Mia.  On our way out of Pleasanton we stopped for a minute at Starbucks and when we arrived at Jo and Jason's we realized that I had left both the Iphon and my wallet in the rest room.  Marilyn quickly found the address on the GPS and called the store.  They were about to close but they had the wallet and phone waiting for me.  So first thing in the morning I'm heading back to Pleasanton to pick up the wallet and phone.  I'm so thankful for honest people who turned the phone in, what a huge relief.

Now we are home after a nice day seeing family, enjoying nature on our lake, having great food and warm fellowship.  Timothy is now 6 years old.  I am so proud of him and what a great human being he is.  He is bright, talented, kind, thoughtful and loves to play, to swim to be with his precious parents.  he is a huge blessing to this family and we all thank God for him.

Sending love to all,

Tim  and guest Marilyn

Once again we celebrate Friday

Wow what a week this has been, Kallie has been with her grandmother on the farm and has learned many new things about caring for horses.  She has done it all and at this moment is on her way home with her dad, its a long trip of about 6 hours and I'm praying for their safe return.

Keanna and Anthony, Dana's grandson came to spend the day with us here today.  He has helped by cutting up branches, giving the boats a try and just being a great kid.  Jessy came today and cranked out lots of work, how proud I am of her, what a bright young woman.

Marilyn has settled in and managed to catch up her friendship with Lois.  The day was perfect weather wise and I even caught Jessy on the back deck soaking in the breezes and enjoying the view of the lake.

I've managed to get some work done and we had lunch at Big Als. and Anthony and I went to UNO's tonight and had some great food.  I had a deep dish pizza with the most wonderful 9 grain crust, just incredible.

So now its bed time and I look forward to a long nights sleep.

Sending love to all and a special happy birthday to Timothy who is turning 6.  Jo collected some of his friends today and they had a happy birthday together.  Jo is great at making good things happen for her wonderful kiddos.  Can you believe it, he is 6 already.  When he talks on the phone he is so mature in his conversation, really fun.

Good evening, I'm so tired.

Hi
Just in from the airport where I picked up a stranger from Rhode Island.  Marilyn arrived this evening after stops in Baltimore and Austin, she is very tired.

This morning instead of walking or the treadmill I worked on the spa.  Ray was kind enough to come over yesterday and break out one of the jets that has started leaking.  He'll pick up a couple new ones when he is in San Jose.  After about 35 years the old one didn't want to come out at all but he got it to cooperate.  So I took a bucket and got myself wet as I bailed out the last part of the water and sponged the dirt out.  Soon the spa will be working and I can relax in it, can't wait.

Yes I did some work today as well, and this evening I went to Oakland in time to see a property which turned out to be near the airport just off 98th Ave.  It was vacant and so the inspection went quickly, very nice and a nearly new home in an area one would not expect to find nearly new homes.

Tomorrow I get to have Anthony and Keanna with me for the day, then when Keanna is picked up by her mother I'll leave for Rio Vista to see a little place at 5 pm.  Tomorrow Steve drives all the way back down to his mom's to pick up Kallie who is probably ready to come home now.  She has spent the week with her grandma on a horse farm, she loves horses a lot.

Well for me its curtains, I'm heading to bed now.

Love to all and tonight I have company in the house, Pooka is thrilled as she spends hours with Marilyn during the day.

Diverse day, 200 miles driven, lunch with Art, dinner with Patty

Good evening

It started this morning around 6 and soon I was walking with Pooka around the lake.  We made our 3 miles without incident and I set to work.  Of course I took time for the steel cut oats which I enjoyed sitting on the back deck on a perfect morning.  I did some fixing of reports and took care of ordering some supplies needed for the boat, two paddles, two throw floating cushions which are required in a boat when you are out on the water, something you can toss to someone who might be in trouble on the water.  How easy it is to just buy things on the internet.

Then it was time for research for the properties I was about to see and finally it was time to leave for Morgan Hill.  I ended up having lunch with Art first at a place we both enjoy in Gilroy near his home.  What fun to just laugh and trade barbs as we munched down great food.

Then it was back to the K&B new home project in Morgan Hill, of course the promised open office was locked solid but with the information they had emailed me I was able to locate the property, measure it and shoot the comps.

I left late from Morgan Hill and had awful traffic over the Sunol Grade, one of the worst traffic spots in the nation.  Then I did a driveby appraisal for a property in Livermore and finally pulled in about 7.

My dear neighbor Patty, a person I admire a great deal had mentioned our going to dinner tonight and it worked out.  We went to Tracy where we dined at the Mongolian Beef place.  What fun and what great food.  You pick what you want and pack your bowl with big noodles, tomatoes, greens, tofu, then put on the sauces you want and hand it over. Two guys working on a huge and hot cooking surface walk around the circle with big sticks and they keep turning your food until its cooked, then they swipe it into your bowl and you are set to eat.  It was incredible.  Patty is the person who has raised 5 grandchildren on her own and then welcomed 2 great grandchildren when the twins had little ones.  Recently she has been fighting cancer but over the last few months there are no signs of cancer and she is enjoying life again.  We always enjoy chatting about our lives, she lost her beloved Chuck about a year before I lost Nan so we have much to discuss.

Now I'm home and need to finish a report tonight before I turn in.

Marilyn arrives tomorrow evening at 7:10 in Oakland.  I'll go late afternoon to see a house in Oakland and time it so I can be there to pick her up.

Well that is the report for today, life is good, God is good.

Love to all

Very long day, just finished one and heading to bed now.

Tomorrow I'm off to Morgan Hill and Livermore, work is very slow.

Good evening

What a perfect day weather wise today, breezes, decent temperatures and the lake was still for awhile this morning.  I had breakfast on the deck and enjoyed watching geese dive for something in the lake.

Eventually I had to go to work and since that involves about 12 steps it was not too bad.  While I was working I did a load of clothes, then hung them up.  Its fun to have this really good equipment working so near and hear it doing its different cycles and the final job is so great, clothes are fluffy and clean, love it.

Tomorrow I'll see a local place at 10, I saw it just a few months ago but need new photos just to make sure it is not gutted by fire inside.

Then I'm back to the office for awhile to get more work completed and conditions finished up as well.

I think Jessy will be back tomorrow and the help will be very nice.

Right now I'm so sleepy and tired.  I started the day with 30 hard minutes on the Nordic Track treadmill and it worked perfectly, no hanging up, just solid punishment but it was not too bad, on one side is Fox news bringing me up to date, on the other side is the open door to the lake and its morning splendor so its not too rough.  It was a really good workout and my pulse rate held nice and steady.

Good night all,

Tim

Sunday, a catch up day

What a beautiful day, I hope you enjoyed it too.

I've been cranking out reports and then getting them back with revision requests, not fun but still they are completed.

I inspected a place in Oakley this evening and then went to UNOs for some thin pizza and soup, what a great meal and it was fun to listen to loud guys at the bar, fortified by a few adult drinks as they told stories, decided which teams were best and talked of gators and exploits, very funny to just listen, one could not listen in, they were that loud.  I'm pretty sure there are a lot of good reasons to not drink and I think they were demonstrating one, its easy to appear pretty stupid when you've had a few.

This morning was my second morning to walk the three miles around the lake, can't say I feel a lot better but at least I know I am trying to fight back for my health.

Pooka did better on her walk today, did not look so tired at the end of the miles but she was sure glad to be home again.  Of course so was I.

Well here comes a new week at us, so far I'm needed in Morgan Hill, Oakley, Hayward and right here in Discovery Bay, work has slowed down a lot and the board is no longer packed with orders.  Rising interest rates will do it every time.

Marilyn is heading this way just not sure which day yet.  It will be fun to have her on board.

Sending love to all,

Tim

Mellow day, resting up

Good evening,

Lunch was so extremely nice today.  I had the privilege of dining with Bob and Nikki.  It was great to see Nikki for once without kiddos, and we knew kiddos were having a blast with their daddy in southern California.

It was nice to catch up with Bob again and share some special memories and moments with him.  Nikki knows and appreciates all that Bob and Carrol did for Nan over the years and really enjoyed her time there with him as well.

The food just seemed especially good today, I had the senior citizen portion of whole wheat pasta with the special cheese and mushrooms, salad and a diet coke.

I've done some resting up and running a few errands today, this evening as darkness fell I went out and cut a few branches off the tree since I could hardly see the lake for the new growth, no more, its on the ground now.

This morning I just faced myself in the mirror and decided I needed to exercise so I took pooka with me and walked around the lake, its about three miles and all day my body has been doing a bit of complaining but I'm very glad I did it.  I'll try to do it again in the morning at 6 when I plan to rise.  Pooka was really dragging by the time we got back, I had failed to take any water for her and she was hot and thirty when we returned.

It is so nice to have the weather top out at 90 instead of 110.  This weather is livable and enjoyable too.

Love to all,

Tim

Cool weather prevails

What a relief today has been, from the 100+ temps yesterday today we topped out about 90 or even less in some areas.  The house AC has hardly come on all day, of course its set at 80 but still it is comfortable inside.

I've just come from having dinner with Nikki at Chili's in Brentwood, Steve is driving Kallie to her grandmothers home some 5 hours away and Keanna and Anthony are along for the ride.  Kallie will spend some time with Steve's mom who runs a horse ranch so Kallie very likely to know a lot more about horses when she returns.  She loves them, her toys are horses and her birthday party was at a horse ranch.  I just pray that Steve stays awake as he drive back in the middle of the night.

I've been taking tests at the end of each chapter as my online training continues.  Costing hundreds of dollars its the last hours I need to be able to apply for a license renewal that is due by August 10.  I know cutting it close, seems there is always something else that needs to be accomplished so the online classes are put off.  Now I'm within the last few minutes of the process and I'm thrilled to be almost done.

This morning I rose at 6 and was in a local house before 8 since it had a lockbox on it and was unoccupied.  What a nice place, on the water, Brock deck and dock, updated inside, a perfect place, older but updated to a point where it is very livable.  That appraisal is due today and the day is slipping away.

This afternoon I drove over to Pleasanton to see a very place.  It had a Wolf stainless steel side by side frig and freezer, it cost nearly $10,000 and what a piece of equipment.  Along with a wolf rangetop and oven the kitchen was a dream for someone who likes the best.

Mid morning I heard Keanna and her friend Summer on the back deck.  They had paddled over in the boat and Keanna needed breakfast.  So I fired up the waffle iron and made Belgium Waffles for the girls and along with fresh strawberries they feasted.  It was a fun break.

Well for now I'm signing off, take special care this weekend.

Love

Freedom American Style

Another 4th, my favorite was when Jason and Jo brought great enjoyment to our lives and to theirs as they said their vows in their yard at MBA.  Nan was thrilled to be able to be there and we both enjoyed the day so much.  One of the best days in my life, seeing ones children grow up, fall in love and then marry, its great stuff and I loved every moment of it.

I rolled out late today as I went to bed late last night, wanted to finish one that was promised and so I kept at it until it went out.

I planned to use as much of today as possible for my continuing education for my license renewal which is up on August 10.  So I rummaged around in the computer until I found the Allied School, I had already paid for the classes a couple months ago.  Finally I found the user name and the password and I was in.  Then it was a matter of just working through the lessons, taking the test at the end of each segment, take it until you pass it, then move on.  Of course they have this clock thing that makes sure you are involved in the class work for as many hours as you are getting for taking the course.  Three hours for the first one and fourteen hours for the second one.  I'm done with the first but only 1/2 way through the second course.  But should finish sometime in the morning, yea!

While fireworks are not permitted in Discovery Bay many fine people did not get the memo and Pooka is very frightened by the booms so she is staying very near to me in my office, she is shaking, poor dear.  From experience I know it will go on for the next few hours but with the windows closed and the AC on I'll sleep just fine tonight.

This morning George called, I missed his call but returned the call and it was good news.  Dr. George and Yvonne have a house at Tahoe which they enjoy very much.  One negative factor was, no cell service available.  So when they heard about the system I installed they drove out and we talked about it.  On Wednesday they drove up to the Tahoe house and installed the system and when they got up this morning they had 5 bars of signal on the property.  I'm thrilled for them, I was glad to get the news.

Well all day I've thought it was Sunday, even started out to put the garbage on the street but no tomorrow is Friday.

Its still hot here, I mean really hot and I'm thankful for the AC today.

Sending love to all, enjoy what is left of the 4th.

Keeping up the pressure

Good evening
Well I've just completed a report for a purchase here in Brentwood, really nice home in a quiet area with 5 bedrooms 4 bathrooms and everything one could want in a home.  Just to be sure I included 7 comparables so now I'm tired and ready to rest.

Climbed out this morning into a beautiful cool surroundings.  I listened to the news about Egypt and felt for the millions in the streets, thank goodness they are pushing back and keeping their country from going extreme like it was headed.  Lets just hope and pray that they can find a path that keeps them in this century instead of the dark ages.

I worked in for a bit and nearly finished one before I had to leave for Antioch and then Richmond.  I've got to say I was not prepared for the Richmond appraisal.  As I was approaching the property I got a call from a young lady saying she had left the house but forgot the key so would need to go back.  I said no problem, measured the exterior and then shot the comps and went to Taco Bell for the bathroom.  While there she called to say she was at the house, on a whim I got her a soda and when I pulled up I handed it to her.  She was this amazingly beautiful girl who looked 15 but was in fact 30.  She had purchased the home with cash a few days ago, then updated it with cash and was not going for a refi.  As she explained what she had done, showed me all the apps on her phone that guided her to a loan, workmen, materials I was just amazed.  She was so calm, dressed in a nice black dress and just seemed to enjoy life a lot.  I helped her with watering the front lawn, new sod and in the heat we've had lately it was not doing well.

As she left she asked if we could meet for coffee soon and this evening she has followed up with text messages reminding me of the coffee and thanking me for being nice.  She was like a breath of fresh air and totally unexpected in that area.  So it makes work fun when you meet someone special like she was.

From the time I arrived home I have just been cranking out work, it feels good and the house is cool and the office very comfortable which all helps.

Good night one and all, oh yes there was something nice that took place between appraisals.  Recently George and Yvonne had visited on a Sabbath afternoon, the day we were preparing to have the family stay in the park.  We got a chance to talk and in the conversation they mentioned that the keyboard they had for their mini ipad was too heavy and I mentioned that I was ready to buy one.  Well Yvonne gave her keyboard to me, I was overwhelmed and thrilled.  Later as I started to type I kept making mistakes, eventually I discovered the b and n were not working on the keyboard.  Yvonne faxed me the receipt and today I stopped by the local AT&T store, I find them so helpful.  In less than 10 minutes they traded the keyboard for a new one on the spot.  Imagine how nice that was.

Multi tasking for fun and profit

Good evening
This will be short as my sleep by number is calling to me...........

This has been a day to be inside as much as possible.  Started the day off with a text from Nikki that told me I did not have to leave for the airport and considering the horrible BART strike and the selfish workers who are causing mayhem in the streets I was glad not to have to go.

Anthony is coming in tonight at 11:30 and Steve has consented to doing the pickup.  Oh how thankful I am for that but I feel sorry for him as it will be a very late night.

This morning before it got to hot I went out front and hooked the book to the little civic so I could move it away from the blocking the door to the garage, the Civic was needing shade.  Steve pulled up as I was moving the boat and told me he would be taking it this afternoon to start working on it, get it running.

So once I got it moved and washed it down a bit removing the cobwebs I went to town, to Napa auto parts and picked up a new battery, the old one tested badly, the readout said, get a new battery so the years of sitting with no action caused the battery to fail.  The new one was $74 which I was pleased with, I thought it might be more.

Then it was back home to work, threw the battery into the boat and Steve's friend came with the Pilot this afternoon to take it for repairs.  Meanwhile I contact the insurance company as I want the boat covered with full insurance as we start to use it.

I've been working on getting out some of the reports that Jessy worked so hard on before she left.

This afternoon I had a 5 pm appointment in Brentwood, it was a little but very nice house and measuring in the heat only beat me up a little bit.  The next house was larger, try 3600 sf but the wind started to blow so it was not too bad.  I discovered when I got back to the car that I had left my wallet at home so no stopping at Safeway this time.

This evening I've managed to get two more out and to the lenders which pleases me greatly.

Now its bedtime,

Love to all,

Tim

Sweet day

Dear Friends and Family,

What a nice day.  This morning I got up early and worked on some reports, fixed some conditions and shipped revamped reports out.

Then I met Steve and the girls for breakfast at Big Al's which is a local place.  Food was good and it was great to see the girls in action once again.

After breakfast I came back home and went to work.  When I arrived Jessy was here and she worked very hard all day with only a quick Starbucks break for lunch.  She is leaving for LA for the rest of the week and her help today was incredible.  Its hard to describe how well she does her job, how tenacious she is at getting it right, its a sense of pride for her to do her best.  What an incredible find she is and she will be missed for the rest of the week.

I'm just back from Safeway where I picked up a few things, seemed like I was out of lots of things, basics for me, cottage cheese, peanut butter, peanut butter crackers, corn, steel cut oats, brown rice.

Now its bed time and in the morning I'll drive to Oakland Airport to pick up Anthony who is coming from Texas for a little visit.  Due to the horrid BART strike getting to the airport will take extra time so I'll leave at 7 in hopes of getting there by 9.

Wishing all of you a good evening / morning.

love
